I don't subscribe...but I buy mine every month to support our ailing magic shop in my area. Picked it up 3-16. Haven't even finished with March yet!!! A new record Richard. The Mac King/Mark Levy feature is hysterical.

Pepka, thanks for checking in. Glad you enjoyed the Mac King/Mark Levy piece: it's on the edge, so I'm curious as to what general reaction will be.

Received mine over here in Hong Kong today. I really enjoyed the Mac King rejects. Made me laugh, still have to go through the rest of it. Richard which version of James Swain's trick fooled you?

Got mine yesterday (3-18) here in Seattle. Loved the Ben Harris spread - somebody is actually trying to make magicians think! And the "Tricks with your Head" out-takes were hysterical.

Keep it up!

I can't hear you, the cover is too loud.
I received my issue on Saturday 3/16. The Webb cups and balls looks neat. The illustrations are great. I'll be working through that routine over the weekend right after I gaff up a tic-tacs box.

Hi Jeremy,

The cover is loud, true. Very full on.

The idea was to actually create a momentary illusion with the cover.

It was designed to fleetingly look like the cover of, let's say, "Astronaut's Monthly."

The idea being that when you pulled it out of the mail box and peered through the poly bag, you would think, just for a second, "I do not remember subscribing to this Nasa mag?"

Then, the following second you notice either the fan of cards, or Genii logo, and the penny drops!

Hope you enjoy the tricks.

Cheers

I'm slightly depressed to find that even though Genii is now coming out earlier than ever before, subscribers in Hong Kong received their copies more quickly than I have here in Spudville, Idaho. :p To think I used to wait months and never complain... (I'm not complaining now...just amused at how times change.)

Vic: Snatch pays big bucks to get his copies sent by airmail. As crazy as it sounds, airmail to other countries can be quicker than second-class periodical mail to certain parts of the United States (and that changes from month to month). Sorry you haven't received yours yet, but it should definitely be there soon!
Snatch: I can't remember which version fooled me (since it's almost a year ago!). I just remember being fooled--and REALLY glad that Jim gave the effect to Genii.

Got my copy today. (still waiting on the Al Cohen issue, though).

What a cover. The rocks in front of Ben make it look like he's shooting a mineral bird. (Ben Grimm instead of Ben Harris??)

I got mine yesterday. I haven't had a chance to dig into it yet, but the brief glance I had looked great. I'm always a fan of Ben Harris's stuff - but I was also pleased to see the interview with Ariel Frailich. I've chatted with Ariel on many occasions and he's a great guy who has helped me think a lot about my magic.

The other nifty thing was in the review for Monday Night Magic - the girl in the picture with Peter Samelson was one of the crowd of people I brought with me that night. I haven't showed it to her yet, but my friends got a little kick out of that. And I should be in that picture with Frank Brents, but I think Michael Chaut is blocking me...oh well. I was so close to being in Genii...maybe someday...

Phila. Pa checks in. Rec'd on 3/19.
The Ben Harris article caught my eye right away. And the same for the Mac King outtakes.
It is amazing that you keep the magazine so fresh every month. Keep up the good work!

Genii arrived in Madison, WI, 3/19/02. Great issue! The "censored" Mac King material was a guilty pleasure. :D How difficult is it to get tickets to Monday Night Magic?

It's not dificult at all. Just go to www.mondaynightmagic.com, and you'll find all the info there. I believe Ticketmaster is currently selling tickets several months in advance. At the MNM website, you can also check out the schedule of upcoming performers (Max Maven's gonna be there in a few weeks - I should get my tickets now!) and sign up for their e-mail list.

Ask and ye shall receive. My April Genii arrived today in Boise, Idaho - March 20, 2002. The mail system here seems to like the taste of the magazine, since it appears that some machine tried to take a bite of it. Great content, and I decided to re-enroll in college after reading Mac King's tricks that were (wisely) edited from his book. "To Pee, or Not to Pee?" These pranks can cause some seriously funny interactions in your dormitory. Isn't that what higher learning is all about? I'll let you know how I make out with the sex detector match trick...if it works I will praise Mac King and work in his compound for free. Just to see a glimpse of the master, as he rides by in his chauffeured Rolls on his way to Harrahs. Or, maybe his lovely wife Jennifer could be persuaded to tip the real work (which was edited by Genii) to us.

I don't see what the big deal is. Genii censored a pair of cartoon breasts?!

Where were the editor's eagle eyes when Denny & Lee put a photograph of some guy's butt on the back cover?? Talk about unpleasant!

Amusing that I got my April issue on Wed. 3/20 in Baltimore, the same day Karen Beriss was wondering where her March issue is ... and she's 35 miles down the road! (Sorry, Karen! ) :)

And, by the way, Jeff, that's not just some guy's butt on the back cover of GENII -- that's Steve Myers' butt on the back cover of GENII.

(I believe Steve needs all the encouragment he can to 'say no to crack.')

By some bizzare stroke of delivery luck, I got my April issue today. Just 3 days after getting the March issue!

I am now afraid that the May issue may take another 3 months or so to make up for the advanced delivery. ;)

I got mine yesterday. Ben Harris's tips for restaurant work are right on the money. On a different note, I'd like to see more stage tricks in Genii. And not the run of the mill, manipulation, and not illusions. Tricks, for one person to do, on stage.

Well, society has determined that there is a difference between seeing a man's naked butt and seeing a woman's bare breasts. Movies with men's butts, like "Planet of the Apes," are not rated R. But movies that show a woman's breasts are R. Har har!
We've just received some complaints about publishing "filth" like the Mac King/Mark Levy outtakes, so I'm guessing that guy really didn't want to see even a cartoon of naked bosoms in his copy of Genii.
For better or worse, we have to keep to a level determined by the fact that many people in all parts of the world, and different parts of our country, read Genii, and not all of them are amused by the same things.
