Polishing the Johnson's cups?
What are you guys using to polish your Johnon cups? I was told that they did not need polishing.But in fact they do. I want to make sure I don't damage them with a powerful cleaning solution like brasso. Cheers
Re: Polishing the Johnson's cups?
Snatch;
I, of course, can buff mine when required. For others I would suggest getting a jewelers' polishing cloth and use it to give the cups a good rubbing when needed. If they are kept in a "Pacific Cloth" bag, tarnish will be slowed down.

Re: Polishing the Johnson's cups?
I already screwed one of my Johnson Cups with the Brasso product. There is a dark residu I cannot get rid of...any suggestions?
Re: Polishing the Johnson's cups?
Chris;
If you can not remove the residue with a jewelers polishing cloth, you might take it to a metal finishing company or jeweler to have it rebuffed. If it has been etched, buffing will most likely be needed.
When working with copper, brass, and nickel silver products, you really want to avoid any polishes containing ammonia.

Bill;
FYI - Yesterday MoFo (the name says much) made an extremely inappropriate comment here. Most of us are trying to help each other; but this comment was not about helping. The idea behind belonging to something like the Genii Forum is being part of a community. As part of a community, it is the members' duty to participate in a constructive manner. Yesterday's comment was uncalled for and certainly unconstructive. I would support the removal of MoFo from the Forum - if this is what has happened. A great deal of time and energy went/goes into creating and tending this forum. The energy was not spent to receive comments like the one from MoFo.

My good friend, Roy Kueppers, has a secret process he developed for just this problem. You can contact him for prices at roykueppers@execulink.com.
Or go to his website:

A lot of collectors have used Roy's process to protect their props.

Re: Polishing the Johnson's cups?
Cheers fellows for the handy information.
I also used brasso on my working professional copper set. got a good shine on them, but they again tarnish very quickly. Is there a difference between the Brass cups and the Copper cups in terms of how long it takes them to tarnish? Cheers.

Getting back to the Mofo thing. Richard, you made the right decision. I saw his reply to this and it was terribly offensive. Has he done this in the past? I think he gives magic and magicians a bad name. Even more so than "Magicians do it with Spong Balls" buttons. :)

As some have surmised, I deleted Mofo's post and removed his ability to make further posts. I have no problem with someone posting stupid comments as long as they're not offensive. Mofo crossed the line.
