member search

Postby Bill Mullins » March 12th, 2003, 9:43 am

Is there any way I can:

search for a posting by a particular member without knowing that member's number

search for a posting by a person who is no longer registered

Find out if a particular name is a member

I've had a problem with that too.

Today I wanted to search for a post by a member whose name I know, but whose number I (not surprisingly) don't know.

Any answers?

I just took a look into your question...

It appears that we cannot search for posts by specific members--the administrators can, but regular members cannot.

I'd suggest doing a word search using the member's name--that might get you somewhere.

There may be a way to change this, I'll take a look around.

Thanks Brad, much appreciated.

I already word-searched for the member's name.

But no problem, it's nothing important. But it does seem strange to be unable to search for posts by a specific poster. Not a criticism, merely an observation.

I too have had a similiar problem.

Is there any chance of having a simple alpha list such as a "members directory"along with the member number.

That way you could find the name, but still search by member number.

That would not change any "programming features" for the search engine, it just makes life a little easier for the users!

Ira,
That's actually a feasable idea. I think I can add that in here.... does anyone have any objections to having a "member list" of members?

Brad,
I think it's a great idea: make it so!

Thanks, I had actually thought about submitting the idea awhile ago, as I said, I too have had a similiar problem.

Now without sounding like an "arm chair programmer", why not add a simple drop down list box that shows the members name with the member number and have the bound column associated with the member number.

Well enough of the programming techno-babble, thanks Brad, and thanks Richard for liking the idea and making it so !
