Does anyone know what the content is or even the general idea?

Michael, according to the introduction to Volume 1, volume 3 contains Ascanios "classics"; The Restless Lady, Aces for Conoisseurs etc.

I'm also looking forward to a translation, I only hope the project hasn't been scrapped.

The third and fourth (and final) book are available in Spanish. I imagine it won't be too long before the English translations are made available.

You can see the contents (at least in Spanish) at the links I provided.

I am one of the proofreaders involved in the Ascanio project and I can tell you that I have finished proofreading volume 3. There are other proofreaders and an editor involved in the project and although I do not know at what stage they are, I would guess that volume 3 should see the light of day in late March. I am also one of the proofreaders of volume 4 and thus far I have worked on the introduction and most of chapter 1. Volume 2 was published in late March of 2007.

The book is almost ready for type-setting which more or less confirms Marty's comment. With permission from the editor, here is the unformatted table of contents.

I was planning on getting the book even before reading the contents, since the first two books are among my favorites. I have to admit that I'm quite curious about "The Black Days" now, after seeing how much of the book is spent on describing it and all that goes into it.

Black Days takes up 58 pages in the Spanish version. It's Ascanio's version of Juan's trick, which appeared in Sonata. The trick is not all that long, but it could easily be the most thorough explanation of a trick ever given, especially from a theoretical standpoint. It had appeared as a small circulation book in Spanish and is written by Ascanio himself. It's a treatise on theory that could be applied to any substantial routine.

Beyond this wonderful book, will we also see Ascanio's text on the color changing knives?

That's Volume 4.

The book on the Color-Changing Knives is being translated at the same time by Luis Iglesias and probably coming out shortly after Vol. 3 or maybe even at the same time. It's not quite Vol. 4 but it will be part of the same collection. Vols 1-2-3 are a compilation by Jess Etcheverry, and most of it is re-written. The knife book was written by Ascanio himself quite a long time ago and is independent from this collection. Actually, Vols. 1-2-3 don't even have volume numbers, but they belong together as a trilogy. They are all The Magic of Ascanio, and each has a subtitle.

Rafael,

Will these both be in one book, or will it be the the third volume (i.e., cards) and a fourth volume (knives)?

Thanks -

Mr. Martin--the last two Ascanio books will be two separate volumes. The third on card magic, and the fourth on knives. A little more patience and these wonderful books will be in our hands sometime around April...

I have Ascanio's world of Knives (Jose de la Torre translation). I assume that all of the material in this book plus additional material will be included in the new volume. Is this correct?

[font:Comic Sans MS]The world of the amateur magus
Is marred by the thought of new pages
That will, in a dream,
Make his magic supreme;
So he'll wait for the next book for ages ... and ages ... and ages ...[/font]

Why don't I work on stuff from Ascanio volume 2 ... or Tamariz ... or my thousands of books that I've read once or twice, but need to return to, to bring some of the items I liked to performance standard?

Hmmmmmm

I better check the Libros de Magia website just one more time ..... just in case they've published Volume 3 in the last ten minutes ....
THEN I can get down to practice...

I ordered both volumes on Sunday and they arrived in the UK today (Friday).
Luckily the weather forecast for the weekend is bad!
They are as well put together as volumes 1 & 2 - as to the content I'll start finding out over the weekend.

Regards
Alexander
