Richard,
Thanks for deleting those comments. I was bitching to my GF about it all the way home from the office today.
And thanks for the explanation as to why so many name magicians seem to hail from Ohio.

Three? We're up to 17 so far, and I'm sure there's names still missing from the list.

It seems to me that a lot of the "Name" magicians are from Ohio:
Howard Thurston
David Williamson
Dan Harlan
...
What other names belong on the list?

Re: Encylopedia of Card Magic? Book
Thanks Bill! I'm pretty sure that the one I mean. It's been a long time ago and the memory fails. I found a picture of it on Amazon, and it seems to be the one I remember; big and white. Going to have to try to track down a copy for old time sake.

Re: Praise for Michael Close...
Hello Mr. Close, I've been trying to get the hang of the faro shuffle for years. Your instructions were so good that I was doing it with consistency within a few hours. True...I have been able to do the faro shuffle on a limited level, but I'm really happy to be hitting it with consistency now. I'm ...

Here's the quote:
"I learned to do a faro shuffle between the ages of 12 and 13. I learned it from the description given in Harry Lorayne's book Close-Up Card Magic."

Close mentions in his notes on the Faro that he learned it from your book, Harry. BTW...I highly doubt you remember me, but I remember all those times at Reuben's Deli soaking up the magic from you; although, I spent most of my time with Wes.

Encylopedia of Card Magic? Book
Back in the '70s I remember taking a book from the library (I don't remember if I returned it or not) that I remember being called THE ENCYLOPEDIA OF CARD MAGIC, but I've never been able to track down a copy since. The book was white and quite thick, as I remember, and each effect was accompanied by...

Praise for Michael Close...
I've struggled with the Faro Shuffle for years. Recently I bought Michael Close's Workers series DVDs and found out about his handling for the shuffle. It's not hype. Within hours I was able to do the eight runs to bring the deck back to new deck order following his instructions. I'll be spending th...

Wow! Hard to believe that its been that long already. I was fortunate to meet him before he passed. He was - a remains - a true inspiration. Thanks, Max, for getting those VISIONS OF WONDER DVDs made and a part of Tommy's contribution to magic preserved.

Not Snap... Then Who?
I've been following the Snap Illusions threads over the last few months, which lead me to this thread. What illusion builder companies are recommended? It seems that there are very few places to get quality illusions, especially in Europe, which is where I am now. So... which illusion builders to de...

Re: Uri Geller in Athens GR, with offensive show to mentalism.
Just my two cents... I watched the airing of the American version here in Finland, and I didn't find the credibility of the performers to be in doubt. All - except one - billed themselves as magicians. On a more subtle level... I thought the show took away Uri Geller's credibility. As a "true p...

I'm assuming you mean that one has 5 minutes and full access to one's props. I suppose I'd perform SnowStorm under those conditions.

Re: The Masked Magician Spreads like a Virus
The Masked Magician series didn't kill magic in the U.S. of A., and it won't kill magic in Europe either. However, it may force magicians to step up their game a bit. I'm reminded of a quote I once heard from Jim Sisti (paraphrased): "Don't use a picture of a rabbit on your business card unless...

I've always liked David Regal's handling of Oil & Water (Perfectly Oiled). I went so far as to track down a black-backed deck of Bicycles to keep the black/red theme even more clear. I also like Jon Racherbaumer's handling (Technicolor Oil & Water) found in his Lecture Notes 1 (1976). The ef...

Re: Whats the buzz on the new Bicycle Box design?
Michael Weber mentioned that Bicycle (U.S. Playing Cards) will be discontinuing gaff cards - if they haven't already. The explanation he gave was that China has been knocking off Bicycle cards, and Bicycle didn't have a legal defense to stop them because of the gaff cards. He also mentioned that U.S...

Did You Know Bob Nixon of Maine?
I'm wondering if anyone in this forum was acquainted with Bob Nixon of Maine. He was the IBM TVP, but I'm not sure when he held the office. He recently passed away, and I was only in sporadic contract with him. He was my 2nd cousin, and my mother's first cousin. I'm hoping I can find a magi who knew...

Re: What's the Best Glue?
I'm planning to make a table like the one seen in the L&L DVDs, so the under padding wasn't a real consideration for me, as I intend to use a close up as well. But... maybe it would be better to use a padding underneath. Now... when I said I wasn't a carpenter or good with building things... I w...

I'm not much of a carpenter or much for doing with my hands, but I'm putting together a close-up table, and I need to know what the best kind of glue is to use for gluing the type of green "fabric" used for pool tables. Any DYIers out there who know?

Re: Most astonishing thing I've ever read in a magic magazine
It is my understanding the Carson had seen Martin doing the Flydini routine (perhaps at the castle?) and had begged him for years to come on The Tonight Show to do the routine. Martin finally relented once he knew that Carson's term as host of the program was nearing the end.

The Great Flydini is CLASSIC!!! Its great that Carson was able to talk Martin into doing that bit right before Carson left The Tonight Show.
