Re: RED by Craig Petty
I say, I say, I say! What's the definition of chutzpah? The boy who pleaded guilty to murdering his parents. When he was brought to trial, he asked the judge for clemency on the grounds of only recently having been orphaned. In other news, Penguin, Saturn, Vanishing Inc., and MJM have all withdrawn ...

Perhaps it is too sordid for some? I don't know. This is a link to what Bob King has written on the Penguin Magic website: http://www.penguinmagic.com/q/red-new-wave-prediction/52c9a55f41b86a5a7e0a46b0 In case it vanishes, it says: "How can you sell a trick that was stolen from me? I put this o...

Someone should probably take along some chips to go with all that egg on their faces.
Craig Petty: redefining chutzpah, one day at a time.
I am looking forward to the rationalisation that will be doubtless forthcoming. 'Looking forward', as in peeking through my fingers whilst cringing horribly.

Re: RED by Craig Petty
Richard, yes, quite right. He talked about it in self-deprecating terms in the lovely, filmed interview which came with his memoirs. But, as I said, I was erroneous in thinking that 'RED' was a take on 'Second Sight'. It is, in fact, practically identical to NWP. I guess one could argue that NWP is ...

RED by Craig Petty
Apparently, this is the same trick as Bob King's 'New Wave Prediction'.
My fault was to pre-judge it as a rip-off of 'Second Sight', by the late, great Ron Wilson.
It seems that no answer is forthcoming, either from the author or producer.
What says the Genii?

Re: The End of Paper Currency in the UK
What pisses me off the most, quite apart from magic, is that apparently there was a consultation. When? Where? We were never consulted. I'd be interested in the ecological arguments. On the one hand, paper money means wood pulp, on the other, plastics don't easily bio-degrade. I suspect it is based ...

Gratuitous? Charming, Mr Stone. I don't quite understand the leap from my minor faux pas to ejaculating comparisons with sharing scans of published works. I must be too stupid to see the logic there; all I see is reductio ad absurdum. Oh, and being "taken with" and "taken by" are...

Re: Why it's so hard to sell the "Magician in Trouble" conce
Tommy Wonder, in his Tamed Card routine, makes a very important point, re: the magician in trouble scenario. It is that by blaming the spectator, when the chosen card doesn't match the others, he generates a mild feeling of resentment, rather than sympathy. That may seem odd, at first, but what it a...

It's probably because previously the BBC was found to be involved in telephone phone-in 'sharp practice' and there was public furore. The public institution now needs to be seen to be squeaky clean. What disturbs me is the sheer diversity that exists within 'hypnotism'. One the one hand, I'd feel ambivalent about a friend or family member going to a 'hypnotherapist' because they were feeling tense, or dealing with smoking withdrawal. Like Damien, however, I would just as soon recommend going to...

Yes. Sensitivity towards mental illness is not political correctness, it is simply human compassion. Bipolar used to be called manic depression; anyone who has lived with this knows the misery and desperation it brings with it, both for the sufferer and family.
