Deaths in Magic

Since everybody in magic seems to be dropping dead lately I might as well add my name for the list. I should be dead within 24 hours and the prediction has been made by an expert. A doctor no less who is furious that I have signed out in a great big huff of his intensive care unit on the grounds tha...

Oh, I do apologise. He has shown a music video which although good shows absolutely no talent of his own. Just signs of someone elses virtousity rather than his own. I think it would behoove him better to show more of his own work rather than someone elses before carping at others. I can certainly t...

Jason has not yet indicated where he would like to Chris jump yet! I can save him the trouble but politeness indicates my lack of temptation to do so. It would help if we could see some video of Chris's work to impress me. Alas I do not see a single sample of it . I think that is very wise of Chris....

I knew Murray the escapologist quite well. He was a big friend of Dante's. He told me he used to dream that he was back in the old days drinking with the Great Man . I also met an old man who told me he was Dante's stage manager. He told me that Dante's hair went white overnight when his son died in...

I do two paddle tricks and that is quite enough for me. I do the Dotty Spots trick (which I suspect comes from Edward Victor although I can't be sure) and the Dr Sack Dice trick which has always stood me in good stead. I have carried them around with me virtually every day of my life since I was 16 ...

Re: Johnny Hart has passed away.

The reason I thought he was 73 was that I have always thought he was a year younger than me because of the age limits for being in the Young Magician of the year. The competition was in 1961 and the age limits were between 14 and 18 years old. The "between" was what confused me. I am not s...

Oddly enough I haven't the slightest idea what a hot rod or a colour monte trick is even though I have been doing magic for about 60 years or so. I will concede that I have heard about those tricks but I have no idea what they are supposed to do. So the reviews are welcome to me. Never make assumpti...

There are indeed exceptions but generally speaking it is something I have noticed time after time over the years. I have mentioned it on this interview with Mahdi at around 36 minutes in. I do not mean talking in one act and silent in another. I was referring to both in the same act. First the magician works silently as an opening segment then stops to talk. Yes. I have seen Lance Burton at it and he did indeed do it quite well. But he was doing a full evening show and in those circumstances it can work quite well since it bloody well has to. A good magician gets two kinds of applause. The applause at the actual performance whether that applause is measured by laughs, gasps or indeed applause.
