Re: Magic 1400s-1950s

The thing we have to keep in mind is the marketing experts at Taschen aren't going to let this book flounder. It's in three languages, which braodens its appeal, it's a stunning book that folks other than magic history geeks are going to enjoy. I also heard that another edition with three other lan...

It is foolish, but sometimes the heart pounces before the brain checks things out! I actually think the price will end up dropping because I suspect the percentage of magic hobbyists who actually care about history is pretty small. Agree with MJ here. (Although the packaging certainly is a small thing in the grand scheme and it in no way reflects on the material, details do matter). Secure cases need not be expensive--just well designed. The Disney multiple disc cases come to mind. Even some of the early DVD cases with an inde...

Thanks, Marco--I'll check it out. It sure would be cool though if future magic books would have IBSN bar codes (make things a lot faster). I wonder how much that adds to the cost of a book.

Library cataloging software

Has anyone tried Delicious Library 2 (for Mac) or MediaMan (for PC) to catalog a magic book collection? The main problem I see is that most magic books have no UPC's so the scanning feature won't work. However, they do allow manual input of the ISBN. This would work for modern works, but the older s...

Re: New Book by Jim Steinemeyer, Ricky Jay & Mike Caveney Arrives

Anyone know why the authors specifically chose to end it in the 1950's as opposing to going all the way to 2000. It would have been really great if it included the more modern history as well - thus becoming the ultimate chronicle of magic. . . I felt that, visually, it was a natural place to end. ...
