Re: About doing magic

One of the things I wish to stress in my introductory post was the importance of the likeability of the performer. The kind of magic one does is entirely dependent on the opinion of the audience. One of my common statements about magicians is that any performer bows at the end of a performance to th...

About doing magic

I personally do not care a whit about being entertaining. I believe if you do magic, the audience will be entertained. When magicians sell magic they don’t call themselves entertainers they call themselves magicians. Then they often say, “audience participation.” That means, don’t sit near the stage...

Re: The Jerx on Natural Double Lifts

I do the Vernon lift. Got it from a Vernon book. One day long ago at a magic convention far, far away, I was talking to a fellow magish. He said he did the Vernon lift and got it from the same book I did. We did the same double different. Interesting! I open my close up act with Ambitious Card. My o...

Re: The Jerx on Natural Double Lifts

More 2 cents and a bit more. About magic moves incl DL. In my little mind I see the goal in magic moves is to make sure the audience does not see the move but see the result of the move. As with the case of false transfers, do you want them to say, "Boy it looks like he put the coin into his ha...

Re: The Jerx on Natural Double Lifts

My two cents. Long ago I decided a double lift cannot be done naturally. The Jerx material is misleading. I do not think a layman would ever put a card back on the deck face up. So, in my opinion, the test was set up to be misleading. On the other hand, the magician can make the double lift look nat...

Doing copper silver transpositions

For some years I have worked on copper silver transpositions. I have never liked the "standard" way of handling it. To be successful the magician needed to teach the spec how to hold a coin. Then, one had to fold the fingers of helper over a coin and then grab the person's hand and turn it...
