Re: WTB Dover 60 Years of Magic Posters

The thread subject has the title wrong, causing confusion. This is 60 Great Magic Posters, the Dover book which came out recently (this past spring?) but was recalled due to lifting images from the Taschen book. Here's one on eBay for $19.99 with Buy It Now: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http:...

I can't help thinking that in all of the history of the art, somebody had to have asked why these effects work the way that they do? "Why these effects work the way that they do" is incredibly vague. Since you've dismissed the Fitzkee, Tamariz and Kurtz that have been offered, could you g...

Oh, nice point. So the purpose of the decoy move wasn't to get P&T to bite on it in earnest, but rather to offer them a choice: (a) effectively explain a trick in P&T's own repertoire, or (b) preserve their own secret and pretend to have been fooled by the decoy switch. That's clever, but th...

I wouldn't call it that. This seems more like a pool hustler playing under speed. They were secretly skilled, but chose to look like ham-fisted amateurs to sucker Penn and Teller. Unfortunately they made their own decent trick look crappy in front of the largest television audience they may ever per...

In episode 6, Swedish duo, Brynolf & Ljung, fooled P & T with a card trick. To those who have seen it, does anyone think B & L were stretching the truth by claiming there was "no switch"? There was no switch. The signed card did actually end up inside Brynolf's mouth. The slig...

I think I recall someone saying that they make a stack of DJs, sandwich them between two sheets of posterboard, then roll the whole thing up and keep them safely in a tube.

Worth repeating: Folks, don't leave it for your family to try and sell when you die. It's a huge burden and they won't get the full benefit they should. Don't miss Mac King!

1 and 3 PM!

If you go all the way through Harrah's to the service desk way in the back, you can ask for vouchers for the Mac King show. They'll drop your cost down to $13 or so.

The vouchers are free for the asking; you just have to know where to ask.

The bottom line is that Strobridge, Otis, and the other lithographers of the day did not print posters on oilcloth. [...] I think Clay expected that Kevin would know this. Right, that's why I used Cards as Weapons being rare-50,000 as my example. As the attached number rises, the term becomes increasingly oxymoronic. "Rare-50,000" succinctly makes it self-evident that the book is in no way rare, thereby implicitly suggesting that its market value must be dri...

Clay, it's pretty heavy handed to prescribe usage to other people, especially when you desire a word in common speech to instead be employed in the manner it is used in a very specialized lexicon. Maybe you could start appending an quantitative suffix to your own specialized usage of "rare"...
