Re: Rub 'N Tug

I think both Mr.Biro and Mr. Townsend make valid points. There ARE many more people playing around with cards and coins than ever before. It is not surprising that moves are reinvented and it is no discredit to the reinventor to reinvent the material if it was created out of act of exploration or di...

Re: Rub 'N Tug

Ross Bertram performed the "Rub-A Dub" with a face up card, while the deck was face down, in the early 1960s. He performs it with other Rub A Dub variations in one of his films.

Re: Penumbra Summer Extra

Okay, okay. I can't take it anymore. Here is the real story on the Penumbra Summer Extra. Bill Goodwin and Gordon Bean had nothing to do with the Penumbra Summer Extra. Bill's statement on this Forum is essentially correct although several other people - in addition to Gabe Fajuri - played a large p...

Re: Penumbra Summer Extra

I, too, am surprised by the Bean/Goodwin post. I was asked to contribute to the "Summer Extra" and did so willingly, releasing a routine I have kept under wraps for several years. As the other 31 Face North attendees can attest, we (Allan Slaight and myself) always have Bill Goodwin and Go...

Re: Penumbra Summer Extra

I can assure you, as one of the organizers of 31 Faces North, that Mr. Slaight was thrilled with the real story of Stewart James and that his brief absence from part of the convention - he was certainly there more than your informant - had nothing to with the S.J. material.

Re: Dai Vernon ebooks on ebay?

To those on the Genii Forum who notified me of the infringement of the Dai Vernon material, thank you.

The seller has been notified and will terminate the auction.

Again, many thanks.

Re: The Vanishing Leprechaun

Well, Mark, you weren't very good for very long. You do not own the rights to the Vanishing Leprechaun. The rights to the design are owned by Pat Lyons and registered as such in both the U.S. and Canada. I have the legal documentation at hand by which Bill Elliott transferred all rights back to Pat....

Cups, Cups, and Cards

I am selling a variety of items that belonged to Willis Kenney - a superb sleight of hand man, card mechanic actually - on behalf of his widow. - Paul Fox Cups - Probably made by Paul Fox, rather than Danny Dew. (Willis used them for decades and was a guy definitely on the inside. Light weight, same...

Re: Tarbell Egg Bag

Not to question Pete Biro but I believe that a Tarbell bag is slightly different than a Sterling. The secret opening in the bag is located on the outside of the bag for the Sterling model, and on the inside for the Tarbell. It makes a difference, particularly if you are going to do the Mardo roll-tu...

Re: Anyone know of Jack Bateman?

Jack Bateman was/is from Toronto, Canada. Built a great number of props. Experimented with electronic props decades ago. Used to market a variety of routines through Gene Gordon's magic shop in Buffalo. I believe that Mike Skinner used to use the Rub-A-Dub-Dub patter for the cups and ball at one tim...

Re: Bertram's Ring on Stick

Okay, I was wrong. Upon close examination it turns out that the loop of fabric that holds my ring in the center of the double handkerchief is attached only to one side of the double handkerchief. This raises the question of how then do the sides not billow out or separate if they are not sewn togeth...

Re: Ricky Jay reference

See page 17 of Edwin Dawes "The Great Illusionists", as it reproduces "a woodcut by an unknown artist for the Block Book WIRTUNG DER PLANTETEN (1470) derived from the orginal CHILDREN OF THE PLANETS drawing by Joseph of Ulm (1404)"

Hope this helps.

Doug, you call and I answer.

You have made an astute observation about the coin assembly. I have address this issue or at least stated my opinion, in a forthcoming issue of Genii devoted to the life and magic of Ross Bertram.

Richard: Don't be so certain that you're memory is correct. It may be...it may not. I cannot access my files at this time because I am moving into a new office. However. To add further fuel, I can't say at this time whether or not Gary came up with the concept independently. (I do recall him working...

Re: Three Fly

I have known Gary for many, many years - probably longer than anyone on the forum as we first became friends in the early 1980s when he moved to Toronto. Gary and I used to work at a dinner theatre show called "A Little Night Magic". We were two of the original cast members. I remember Gar...
