Re: Royal road to card magic
Today Im giving a pristine hardcover copy to
A young man I know who wants to learn cardmagic.
It is from my personal library so I will have to seek out a new/old copy.
It was tough to part with, but Im glad to be able to help a newcomer.

I still cherish my Coles edition. I found it in a bargain bin for $2.00 in a used book store.

Re: Royal road to card magic
Not quite sure what you mean by "motives" Or "stirring up". It is quite a good book and I hope Mr. Lorayne takes it on. Always have, always will. Regardless of who else attempts it. Good luck to them. Im sure they/he/she/you will do fine. My hope was/is always that Harry would do...

Re: What separates the pro from the amateur?
In fact, now that Im an amateur again (and have been for many years now), I think about how much my magic has changed.
There is good and bad on both sides and only the individual can know which is better for him/her.

Re: What separates the pro from the amateur?
Deluded amateurs also borrow money too, you know. And they continue to delude themselves that technical skill equals being a good magician. It most certainly doesn't and in fact tends (although not always) to indicate the opposite. I am delighted that at least I have never had to borrow money. I ei...

The main difference is mental attitude. A different approach to things entirely. There is a very interesting sociology book dealing exclusively with magicians which does compare the amateur outlook to to the professional's. Thankyou.
I first met Daryl in Toronto and he was very kind and nice. He performed superb magic and he was very helpful.
I perform a little bit of his original magic and Im a proud owner of his excellent Omnibus book.
Goodbye Daryl. You are a legend and I will always miss your smile.

Re: Charlie Miller
John is a very fine and clever magician. I noticed he does two (2) different color changes from Erdnase. The first is immaculate. The technique on the second one (the one at issue on this thread) is good, but the patter line may invite suspicion. As he places his hand on the top card in preparation...

Carney on the Erdnase Color Change: https://www.artofmagic.com/products/color-change-erdnase Not too bad. I've seen him do it even better. The camera is stationary. In performance he uses a body turn and his arms and hands move in tune with the narrative of the effect. Thanks for sharing that link ...

I wouldn't say it was a mess but there is a better way of doing it which I figured out many decades ago. Virtually everybody I see do the move makes me cringe. Re: Charlie Miller
There are many good touches on the Houdini/Erdnase change to decrease the amount of in and out movement. First is Vernon's idea of cupping the hand and then straightening the fingers as the hand is turned palm down over the card. This eliminates the outward movement completely. Only the flesh of th...

Also, in perusing that bound volume of Ibidem I read that Harry Lorayne had written to Lyons about a Ransom item called Brown Study being similar to part 2 of his Location Supreme from CUCM. I just went down to my library and re-read this article. Very interesting stuff. Thanks Sebastian. Joe, I really like that Gardner Idea. Very versatile. I have fond memories of chatting with David from time to time as I perused the book section of Morrissey Magic at the old Glencairn shop. He was always very nice. Here is a very odd thing that I have often thought about. I have exhibited at many, many psychic fairs over a period of 20 years or so. And I know many, many psychics personally. For some odd reason or other I have never ever seen a psychic use a crystal ball for readings! I have seen them on sale ...
