Elbert Gardner R.I.P

The Linking Ring for April reports the death of Elbert Gardner on August 18, 2014. He was a magician I befriended after I retired and went to live for a year near Albany, New York. Elbert was a gentle soul with a deep interest in magic. He invented quite a few effects, most notably the Shogun Wallet...

I must share that I was very much impresed and moved by Roberto Giobbi's September "Genii Session" column. He discusses the relationship of sports-like contests with FISM organization and "magic as an art" ideas.

I highly recommend that you read it.

Banksy's Dismaland

British artist Banksy has a new show in Weston-Super-mare, home city of the Bristol one-day convention, called Dismaland. Housed in an amusement park that's been dark since 2000, the dark, edgy show by the artist and several others sold out all tickets almost instantly. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-...

I haven't seen this discussed here, but in this bumper crop of new boos (Blomberg, David Ben on Erdnase, and Lewis Jones's "Card Party") we have a new small book by Guy Hollingworth. It's called "Renovations" and it's up to Guy's usual high standards. I won't blow on about it. If...

Re: Question for Richard re: Standard Notation for Card Mag

In Chess, there is simply a sequence of moves which is recorded. In magic there is so much more. The idea in magic writing is to convey the cards used, and the counts, cuts, and moves, but also the subtlety. That is not so easily annotated. There is also an extra step the reader's brain must go thro...
