Re: A shocking ethical dilemna

....To me the stooged events generally look like what they are. As I watched the performances of the effect I am working on, every performer did their best to play up the "magician in trouble" scenario, but the audience always seemed to be in on it, never actually buying into the illusion...

Re: A shocking ethical dilemna

Being electrocuted is one of my least favorite activities.....even 'mild' electrocution pisses me off. Its less about ethics, and more about respect. Simulation via sparking device will illicit a stronger response...unless you're looking for a black eye from the volunteer.

Re: The Return of the MASKED MAGICIAN

Kill your television. Spend that time and energy that would be wasted writing letters on reahearsing/scripting more. Nobody really cares. Those that do, are the ones getting paid. I'm more hateful of jackass hack magicians with little talent and creativity who do more harm than the masked guy. If yo...

Re: Performing for the Master

Mr. Frame, I mean no disrespect towards you and your post. On the contrary, you're in high regards in my book..... However, I'm basing my thoughts on what I've already witnessed, all of which have been less than the best of performances. I think if you're proposal was purely hypothetical, then I may...

Re: Performing for the Master

Why would we want to do so? Unless we could offer substantial improvements to the routine, I see no reason to do so. Sure it might offer an ego boost to the individual, but I don't see what else. I've seen several Slydini impersonators over the years and, frankly, I find them insulting to him. Slydi...

Re: Dynamo - Superstar Magician - Adidas

Dan K, Thanks for taking the time for your thorough response, I greatly appreciate it. Great to hear insight and background. While not my personal style, I can appreciate the struggle for success. I think part of the issue is detaching one's self from others. Feel free to contact me offline as your ...

.....Over the years he's put his determination to work, and has achieved a degree of success. He's always been nice to talk to, if one remembers that he is a kid from Bradford - remember that his accent, to a Merkin, is not that far removed from what Blaine sounds like to us..... Thanks Ian, those ...

Re: Dynamo - Superstar Magician - Adidas

Why so much 'hate'? I'm aware that with fame comes criticism, but seems like magicians in general are very hateful. I'm not familiar with this kids stuff, and in no way am I endorsing him. I would probably agree with many characterizations of his style. Also, I'm not saying we should wholeheartedly ...

Re: Where to go in Paris?

I highly recommend The Double Fond as well. The venue is very unique and highly entertaining. My French is minimal to non-existent but when Mr. Duvivier performs, the magic transcends the language barrier. The format of his close-up theater is exactly how close-up should be exhibited complete with r...

Re: Discussing a Disgusting Habit—Cigarettes and Magic

Here in California, cigs are considered evil. I don't smoke (cigarettes), but I do carry the fake "puff cigarettes" and practice with them. Up close, they're clearly fakes. Looking at them futher away, they seem to be the real thing. AND you can get a very realistic puff of smoke from them...

Re: Eric DeCamps Pure Magic – A Performance of Contemp

I am sick and tired of watching bad magic. This show is an opportunity to see a real master at work. Go see it! Others feel this way too!? Awesome. I had the opportunity to see Mr. De Camps perform his "spirit box" routine at a convention in Texas 2006. He delivered a masterful presentati...

Re: Advice needed - moving collection

The only advice I can give is to move the collection yourself. No movers, no family, no friends. You are the only one who knows the value of your collection, so handle everything yourself. Gord I must second this. My collection has had to be moved several times and I trust no one else to move it. '...

H.P. Lovecraft...? Lurking Fear Lovecraft...? I thought he was long gone...

However I vaguely recall reading someplace Lovecraft (the writer) wanting to ghostwrite for Houdini. Anyone else corroborate that?

"Crazy-8" routine

Dan Harlan's routine, Crazy-8 is a great effect as it stands. Are there any others out there who perform this effect? I've been trying to develop alternative presentations for the method to no avail. Any alternate ideas for this routine? Anything beyond a card routine?
