Re: Improving Magic Conventions

I always find it interesting to hear people critique and make suggestions regarding magic conventions. Anyone who is critcal of existing conventions just needs to go through the experience of organizing or assisting in planning and executing a convention once to understand and appreciate all the eff...

Re: coin magic

He mentioned that in the lecture. He said he puts it there for only a couple of seconds or it does fall. When he performed and explained the effect he left it there for only a second or two. Also he mentioned the lighter the object the longer it will stay but still not long.

Re: coin magic

I agree completely that the technical writing in the book is poor. I've been in magic over 30 years (I started VERY young) and can see how it would not be easy to follow some of the explanations. I did have the added opportunity of seeing the performance and explanations at the lecture so it made mu...

Re: coin magic

First let me say I was never really interested in coin magic until I had the pleasure of seeing Troy Hooser lecture here in Chicago a couple of weeks ago. His coin work is terrific. I was really impressed with his thinking and his very visual strong magic. He's made many of the classic coin effects ...

Re: David Copperfield in Genii

At first I was dissappointed when I saw the cover photo and story subject for the October issue of "Genii" was David Copperfield. I didn't think there was anything that would be new or interesting in the article. When I sat down and read the article and interview I was pleasantly surprised...

Re: How to transition between tricks

No one performer can tell another what specific effects or sequence of effects will work for another. The Don Alan video from Stevens and the Tom Mullica performance tape from the Tom Foolery are invaluable tools for you. You get to see 2 successful performers actually performing an act. Also WATCH ...

Re: Best Ace Assembly

I had the extreme pleasure of seeing Bob Stencil lecture and perform at Magic Inc a NUMBER of years ago. His ace assembly is by far the best. His ambitious card is also unbelievable. He may well be the cleanest card handler I have ever seen.

Re: Future Articles

I TOTALLY agree with Dai. Fred Kaps. Ater seeing his performances in "Heroes of Magic" I want MORE. His handling and routining on Homing Card on that show is simply some of the best magic I have ever seen. He was truly a hero of magic.

Re: Denny's Ad on the September back cover

Love the ad as per my earlier post. It could also apply to many of ther internet shoppers. Although I do find it amusing and to the point, there are also a number of very good internet only dealers out there that provide a valuable service to those in and out of the U.S. that do not have access to a...

Re: The Name of the effect

There are a number of variarions of this effect. Many begin with a twisting aces type effect then the backs change color (i.e from red to blue) then again to all different backs. I remeber years ago the effect "Cascade" which I believe was created by Roy Walton had this effect. I also beli...

Re: Do Women Like Card Tricks?

I have also heard that alot and have found the opposite to be true.Women seem to enjoy card tricks as much as the other forms of magic. I wonder where that got started? I have found that women do not like sub par material executed poorly by obnoxious performers.

Re: Card Tricks for Kids

I've had a lot of success and fun with children as young as 5 with causing one card to change into another. This is NOT a card they selected but just a card taken from the deck. A simple double lift then have them tap or blow on the card and it changes. It's one of those things that they ask you to ...

Re: Now Let's Try: Best GAFFED Packet Tricks

I feel one of the best is still Wild Card. Just watch Tommy Wonder perform his wonderful routine. Also Daryl's "Chameleon Cards" has always been great for me. I've always loved the wild card theme. To me it is a truly magical effect.
