Re: Help me recall a John Bannon (?) effect

That's not it. Maybe it's a JC Wagner sandwich effect. I remember the two locator cards are in the deck. You run through the deck to show how the two locator cards are well separated then by a magical squeeze the deck is re-spread to show how the selection is sandwiched. It involves knowing the sele...

Help me recall a John Bannon (?) effect

I'm going over my old repertoire notes and I am looking for the method of a (I believe) John Bannon sandwich effect where two cards are inserted in a deck and then come together to sandwich a prior selection. Anyone got the title or the basic procedure...I am sure it will come back to me once my mem...

Re: What is magic?

for all that has been posted here I would like to add the magic happens in the mind of the spectator not the performer. the better the performer connects with the spectator's understanding the closer they will come to performing it. it can be done with props or words or just the right 'moment'. I don't see the logic or need of a petition... especially a petition on this site. If DC wants to do TV all he has to do is pitch one to potential sponsors and networks. I'm sure with his resources and contacts he doesn't need my signature. Where does this petition go...to DC? to the networks? also,...

I haven't seen the show and I am surprised that Mindfreak Criss would go the route of a Las Vegas fixture show. Perhaps this is also a commentary on this being one too many Cirque productions or perhaps a limit on the type of magic suitable for the LV scene? A friend after a recent visit to Vegas ca...

Vernon's Cutting the Aces is still one of my favorite showcase effects. It may depend on how much time I have to perform it. A Psychological Stop effect usually fits the bill. Many of the above are good ones too. There is a big diff between if you had to learn just one versus having to show just one.

Magic Acts on TV - set up to look like buffoons or as quality entertainment?

I don't watch much magic on TV but when I see reality/talent shows like The Gong Show, America's Got Talent, etc..it seems to me that magic acts are set up to look bad. I am sure many inferior singers, dancers and such are eliminated prior to broadcast but the magician that is sure to bomb always se...

I am writing a book that is intended for the general public that is (for now) intends to include magic effects I do and like. Should I cite references? Am I required to cite them? suppose the magnet in the chop cup has no involvement you simply utilize the cup to hide the load.. if your presentation is all about coffee you can have a tea/teabag punchline to segue to a different effect (chop cup routines tend to be a 'i'm right/you're wrong' ad nauseum presentation.
