Re: Take-up Reels and Birdcages

When? Well, I have 90% of the how to pics taken. I will finish up the reel and pics this fall. The goal is this fall but I am in no hurry. If I wait for additional pics to enrich the material, I will most likely take the info with me to my grave. That is ok as only a limited number of people want th...

Silk hank in Light Bulb -Chamber of Secrets (May 2013)

For a spell back in 1996-7 I corresponded with Don Brandon. Don (Estes) grew up with and was a neighbor of Willard. In our letters we discussed the workings of a number of effects and several original items of Willard's which have never seen print. Don used to do illusion and spook shows. One item t...

Take-up Reels and Birdcages

I am in the process of putting together an epublication on making a take-up reel for use with a birdcage. In addition to the main portion of the publication dealing with the actual machining, I plan to include several variations/modifications and instructions on using the reels properly. I would lik...

Bill,
There a number of free camera apps which speed up capture rates for the Android phones. My SkyRocket takes nice pictures. Light is a big factor with all of the digitals.

Re: Heads up for Mini-Plunger Fiddlers

Jon; You do not need to use very high end professional cameras. I use an older SONY that I have had for probably 7 or 8 years. This model is long out of production. I bought my wife a Nikon CoolpixL120 last year that will run circles around my camera. My camera does 5 megapixels and her Nikon does 1...

Re: Heads up for Mini-Plunger Fiddlers

Jon; Worthy of asking is whether we need to settle for and expect low resolution graphics in commercial products. I do not consider "quick" as an excuse for sloppiness. Yes, fuzzy does the job in transferring info but it really is not that much more time consuming to do a good job with the...

From my viewpoint, it appears that the mini iPad needs a better camera. Fuzzy, fuzzy. My Android phone takes clearer pics - tablet still better. I hope fuzzy is not the future for "quick publications".

P.T.; The Makerbot is lower resolution but fine for teaching and experimentation. A fun item to make would be a lidded box with human finger inside (hole in bottom). The old three lids to cover a coin (attached hair - find the coin) is another item. A third might be a square plastic frame for the ol...

It would be very difficult to suggest items to make without knowing the resolution your printer is capable of producing. 3D printers still have a long way to go. From his setup before sitting down, I would guess a standard type of elastic pull or mechanized pull (reel). I have made/provided many suitable reels to those desiring to accomplish similar effects.

Exactly how he did it does not matter. What counts is that he did it very well.

Much of the rest of the country consider him to be a clown rather than a magician. His drink trick seems to have been poorly performed - but did generate laughs. Perhaps he should try a mental act as people are already asking, "What was he thinking?". I suppose that is news in NYC.

I really should also comment on the bag material (cotton). Several years ago I bought a couple bolts of black crepe de chine for making up bags. Apparently Malini thought cotton was good enough for him. Interesting.

You know you could just order from the maker of the item. I am pretty sure that Joe Porper sells only his originals like the rest of the actual people who design and create their items.

As long as people think they will get something for nothing, they will be taken.
