Re: Slydini's material

It’s not exactly the same pin as the andrus. Harkey made it very clear in conversation he considered them different, though i think the differences are hard to tell. basically the gaffs in the andrus set are a touch ‘looser’ and make it easier to do the moves in that routine. The Harkey effect, whi...

The thing that immediately struck me about Andy's non-cardhandler sample was that almost no one used the left thumb at all. In fact in the majority of clips the left thumb was resting quietly on the left hand side of the deck.

I get the clever fun that can be done with them, but really, does anyone under the age of 60 have any idea what they are? And if they do, do they think it is strange for a male magician to be carrying one around with him?

Next up, magic with spats?

And Mr. Kaufman a decade or so ago printed in Genii groundbreaking material on John Mullohand's involvement with the CIA and his possible involvement with the death of disillusioned CIA agent Frank Olsen.

There's lots in the acting literature about appearing truthful that applies to close up. Stanislavski's Method of Physical Actions is worth reading. It was a later development and a quite different approach from the Method popularized by Strasberg.

In less capitalist markets, the collective concept can sometimes also produce great artistic merit, forfeiting personal immediate gain for collective gain. Who pro...

Mike Douglas was a nice guy. I don't know if his afternoon talk show ever went national. He broadcast out of Philadelphia if I recall, and he would have a co-host for the whole week. And the co-hosts would sometimes be big names like John Lennon. He was a crooner and an amiable softball interviewer....
