So the missus was wondering about the stuff all awry on the second and third shelves in our sitting room. "No, don't touch that," I said. "You promised you'd make room for my Cretinous Politicians bobble-head collection," she reminded me. "True. I guess they'll all have to g...

Chris W. maintained that Erdnase was Edward Gallaway, who at one time was a newspaperman.

He put forth the theory that Erdnase ="earth nose," a German nickname.

Re: Vernon's Silhouettes

Is the distinctive Vernon signature in the OP, with the elongated 9 and the loop at the end of 'Vernon" way above the line (or is that a "D"?), the usual way Vernon signed his silhouettes (or other things for that matter)?

The NY Times article listed a couple of facts which cast doubt on Sotheby's claim that they weren't aware of what was going to happen: 1) The piece was displayed hanging, rather than on a platform like other pieces; 2) It was, conveniently for Sotheby's, the last piece scheduled to be auctioned. I greatly enjoy Reel Magic . What would make it even better is an index of magicians and effects. So many times I'm rummaging around, find a great effect or move, and then lose it the next time I'm on the site. It's a big job I know, but not a huge one; it would increase the value of an already ver...

That's pretty great. Something a little more sophisticated (I think!) than a twisted rubber band untwisting itself.

I assume that segment producers and story producers have actually done some nuts and bolts work. The rest...well it used to be, back in the day, that the producer was the person who convinced the other guy to risk their money.

It’s not exactly the same pin as the andrus. Harkey made it very clear in conversation he considered them different, though i think the differences are hard to tell. basically the gaffs in the andrus set are a touch ‘looser’ and make it easier to do the moves in that routine. The Harkey effect, whi...

The thing that immediately struck me about Andy's non-cardhandler sample was that almost no one used the left thumb at all. In fact in the majority of clips the left thumb was resting quietly on the left hand side of the deck.

I get the clever fun that can be done with them, but really, does anyone under the age of 60 have any idea what they are? And if they do, do they think it is strange for a male magician to be carrying one around with him?
