Diagnosis: Magic

I was watching an old episode of Diagnosis Murder this morning, and part of the story takes place in Dick Van Dyke's character's house.

Lo and behold, in one of the rooms of the house are posters of Carter The Great and Thurston on the wall.

Does anyone know the story behind this?

Here a video of an effect of Jerry's that I made a few years ago. It's one of scores of effects in the book:

Re: Penn & Teller on Late Night With Seth Meyers tonight

They did, with giant cards ("So Teller can't palm them"), a ten card poker routine. I think it's a Bannon one (?) where you are given a choice between two cards each time. In this case, Seth Myers wound up with a full house, but Teller had a Royal Flush in spades.

Re: Gerald Deutsch's Perverse Magic: The First Sixteen Years

Some people have asked why Jerry chose the term "Perverse Magic." He uses it as historical homage to Australian magician Charles Waller, author of Up His Sleeve , who in that book first described at some length this approach to magic. I thought some might enjoying seeing a reproduction of ...

It just seems like a hook to base his favorable review of Penn & Teller on. Nothing more. Kind of lazy.

It's probably well known to readers of this forum, but I had never seen this image before. It's currently in the LA County Museum of Art. Can someone identify it and give some history about it?

And "card magician" and the way less elegant "card person."

No problems about why the term was originally "card man." Just not all that descriptive anymore.

I have to admit though, I still have a hard time abandoning "actress."

Is the distinctive Vernon signature in the OP, with the elongated 9 and the loop at the end of 'Vernon" way above the line (or is that a "D"?), the usual way Vernon signed his silhouettes (or other things for that matter)?
