CLOSE UP CONTEST - TUES Welcome to the United Nations of magic politics. Three hours of mind numbing bureaucracy, irregular voting procedures, ballots that don’t add up and in a truly surprising result - Canada gets the bid for FISM 2021... This is such a strange thread. Eckhard Böttcher and Zauber Butike already wrote about Matthias "Magiro" Weibl. These are the people that exclusively sold the bulk of his material in Germany. His family and closest colleague were consulted for both books. They are both well written with a t...

Re: The Future of Magic Collectibles?

Collections are like a reference library to me. I am more interested in studying the items than owning them. We are merely caretakers of the items anyway. We gather, care for, and then pass the treasures on to the next generation. In my opinion, private collections are a much better parking spot fo...

Re: The Future of Magic Collectibles?

Thank God I've done nothing "noteworthy," because seeing a collection like that without ever being able to own any of the pieces sounds like torture There are other rewards for doing noteworthy work in magic. And it's okay to decline the offer of a tour if that comes your way. Yes I agree...

Your definition reminds me of an answer Klosterman gave in a Club808 interview. "My advice would be to follow a certain item. For example, my collection has everything. And that's not the best way to build a collection...Specialize on cards, stay on cards. If they're going to specialize in magi...

Re: The Future of Magic Collectibles?

I wasn't using the word "inconceivable" literally. And yes, when I think of those massive collections, it's hoarding. That doesn't need to have a negative connotation. Plenty of people may see David's (or a similar) collection, but it is not open to public, and not commercialized in the wa...

The Future of Magic Collectibles?

Re: Your opinions wanted: what do new magicians need to know about the history of magic?

History for "history's sake" is not needed to be a great magician, I think. But you to have love reading. Reading the original books from the original thinkers, instead of watching some modern diluted regurgitation. If you are trying to convince the younger generation to love history by vi...

Yeah they're playing the lottery. Once in a blue moon, some inexperienced inpatient collector with deep pockets ...

just because audience members are aware of the secret of an effect, it does not mean that they can't be fooled by it. Not sure how much I agree with that statement. But let's assume it's true. Perhaps it's better to fool an audience with a method they don't know.... than to fool them with a method ...
