I had totally forgotten that FISM was starting so soon so finding this post this morning came as a very pleasant surprise.

I love FISM reports, they are always such a combination of "The Wizard of Oz" and Shackleton's Endurance expedition.

The real point is, never ask a spec to do anything more demanding than selecting a card and remembering it. Performers can keep their monte routine as "pure" as pure can be and it'll still be BS because they'd get eaten alive on the streets.

(With the exception of Performer, who has been there.)

Well, since real monte as "played" on the streets for money, and magician's monte are entirely different things, it seems pointless for a magician to affect any sort of purity of method. In a show, the objective is to knock the spectators' eyes out, and the performer absolutely should gaff...
