We holidayed in Honolulu recently. I saw there was a regular show at the Hilton Hotel.

Re: Magic in NYC
Thanks for the advice above. Went to Tannens today, and my wife bought me birthday tickets to Monday night magic at The Cutting Room. Eric Walton performed at our table, and Rocco (among others) on stage. Well worth it! And for me, a once in a lifetime opportunity. Hoping to get to Don't Blink Magic...

My wife read about Monday Night Magic, I think, in a travel guide and I wondered if it was still happening. Will check again later in the year.
Thanks for all the posts so far.

Magic in NYC
I'm currently planning a once-in-a-lifetime trip to New York in December with my family. (I have been to the United States once as a kid, about 33 years ago, but not east). As a hobbyist, I'm keen to visit Tannens if I can. Is there something else recommended (shops, shows or otherwise) if I can esc...

I was just watching a video of a good card to wallet effect. Similarly, large "pocket book" type wallets look unusual now, many people just have small card holder wallets.
And as for keeping anything in the "breast pocket of your jacket"...

There's a lot of capital letters in that Facebook post. I think having to officially say the award is official means it probably isn't official.

Great article. I watched an IMS video once with Tom Mullica and Jay Marshall discussing ventriloquism. Great hosts, but it seemed clear the video was thrown together 'last minute'. The story in this article gives the clue as to why!

I've always thought Allan Kronzek's "The Secrets od Alkazar" was a great way to introduce someone to magic, tricks, presentation and theory.

I have been a forum reader for a long time because I have an interest in magic. But unlike the OP, I don't contribute much to the body of ideas and work on here. I think it's a shame, Al, to see Koudai contribute and the reaction you give. It seems like it's not just constructive criticism from a ma...

Re: no-tear currency
We have had no tear currency for a while in New Zealand. You couldn't do bill tear magic here with one of our bills. We also used to have a good sized coin, our 50 cent piece, but all coins are now a lot smaller (that changed about 15 years ago). There are not a lot of performing magicians in this c...

Thanks Paul. I had a little email contact with Aldo and Rachel over the years, but just as a customer. I enjoyed their material.
It sounds like a sad story in the end. Our current crisis reminds me that real relationships and 'being there' for people is a treasure we sometimes neglect.

In 1986 I was finishing my first year at school. At the end of the school year our caretaker was retiring (the caretaker is the person who mows the lawns, fixes things around the school, a handyman type). As a leaving gift our caretaker brought all of the kids into the hall and put on a magic show. ...

OK, I don't read these long reviews. I just check the forum most days to see what's new or interesting. But I often see this poster getting a serve for what he puts up. I think he is trying to contribute positively. Why doesn't someone tell him what you'd like to see, or give him a better format, ra...

Inquisitive: I get what it is to have little money, and find magic pricey. There are no magic shops in New Zealand, just one or two online outfits - and buying online can be expensive here. So here's a hint: go to the library. If you go to your local or school library you'll find decent magic books ...

When i see newspaper photographers at my show i ask them ,pretty much tell them, not to take pictures of this routine and explain why. And the reason is if people don't see the routine they only see a man behind a kid and a picture will not tell the whole story or in this case what the routine is. ...

Thanks for that Q. Gives me a good framework to plan with.
I am one of those hobbyists who left, then came back later in life. And I probably gained exactly what you mention: confidence in front of a crowd, and a few tricks I've been doing all my life.
Great response Q, thanks very much.

Starting a magic club for juniors
Hi. I'm looking to begin a magic club for juniors. Our local junior club wound up a few years ago when the fellow who ran it died. Since then, juniors and seniors have met together. However, we're seeing more juniors (my son included) take an interest in magic. I have fond memories of being in a jun...
