Re: Deck Recommendation

Thank you all for your help. Harry Riser always told the story of meeting Elmsley at the combined IBM/SAM convention in Chicago. Alex hung out in the room Harry and Charlie Miller shared. Harry picked up Alex's deck to give it a faro shuffle. Because of the work Alex put into the cards, Harry said t...

Deck Recommendation

A question for the hive mind: I don't use expensive decks of cards. I buy cards at Costco. I do a bottom-to-top faro shuffle. With some decks, I have to do the shuffles with the deck face up when they first come out of the box. I can usually break in a new deck by doing repeated faro shuffles for tw...

I have been a close friend of Johnny Thompson’s for many years. For the past three years, I have had the privilege and honor to spend many hours talking and working with Johnny during the preparatory months leading up to the Fool Us shoot and the two weeks of the actual shoot. During that time I hav...

Updated air date for episode 13 of season four of Fool Us

I just (like two seconds ago) received updated information from the Penn & Teller: Fool Us producers. The final episode of season four, "Hanging out with Penn & Teller," will air NOVEMBER 30, not October 30. Please update your DVR and spread the word. Thanks.

The lodge is gorgeous, but it is a lodge, not a hotel. Most "campers" will have a roommate. We provide all the food and drink. Owen Sound is a nice little town, but not particularly a tourist attraction. Those coming to the workshop are not coming to sight-see. The grounds of the lodge are...

Re: Reminder: "Fool Us!" starts new season tonight! 7_13

The production schedule for Fool Us is brutal. The crew is in theater for thirteen days. We record sixty-two magicians and thirteen P&T hunks in six-and-a-half days. To make sure there is video coverage of everything the director needs, the camera rehearsal is recorded. In particular, the direct...

Card-wash Control

A question for the collection hive-mind:

Is there a reference in print for the idea of controlling a card during a Vegas-style card wash? It's usually accomplished by keeping a finger or thumb on the back of the card as the cards are moved around.

Thanks for any help.

I'll offer you a suggestion that I don't think is mentioned in Steve's manuscript. Steve Bedwell is tall, and I think your height (relative to the spectator's height) is a factor. Mark: No, the pencil-dotted Joker was in the Curry instructions. The idea is that as the spectator is dealing through, deciding red or black, you stop her on a card before she deals it. (The card you stop her on is the pencil-dotted Joker.) You tell her that this card doesn't "feel right" ...
