Just for sh*ts & giggles, I checked out the MSDS for dimethyl sulfoxide. If interested, here's the link I used. http://www.jtbaker.com/msds/englishhtml/d7120.htm Jon, you have a unique sense of h...

Re: Hand Maintenance
any successful explorations using DMSO to bring something useful into the skin? Dimethyl Sulfoxide (DMSO) has the unique quality of giving one intense garlic breath moments after application. If that isn't much of a deterrent, then remember that DMSO can penetrate the skin, and carry all sorts of s...

I agree. Difficult to use the case as a "holdout," but I have gotten away with it. You do have to pay attention and keep the half moon side down or toward you.

Irrespective of what anyone has done in the past, to know something is wrong and continuing the practice, just because someone else did it before, is no excuse to do something wrong again. Francis Carlyle's "Homing Card," from Stars of Magic is a stunning effect, and doesn't require a wallet, or envelope. Bill Malone produces a selected card from an imaginary pocket. Hmmmm. It would appear that the key factors do not include a wallet per se, but rather the belief that the lo...

I left my quiet home in suburban N. J. and ventured into Manhattan for the first time in quite a while. My purpose was to see PURE MAGIC. I was not disappointed. The show ROCKED. I don't want to go into too much detail, but some of the stuff Eric did just blew me away. His opening effect is quite fl...

Re: Genii Speaks (July, 08)
It really breaks my heart that magicians would rather spend $29.95 for one lousy trick on DVD than $40.00 on a book that will teach them 25 or 30 effects. I would venture to say that most of the people putting out videos today learned their craft from books.

That's fine, if you don't want to do cups & balls, for example. The props really ruin the line of your clothes, when you put everything into your pockets.

I use a small doctor's bag, or a large doctor's bag, depending on the circumstances. Both have foam inserts that were cut out by me to hold the props. There's no real answer to your question. It all goes to personal taste, style, and disposable income. I have tried a number of sets, including Sisti, and Johnson. I used the copper cups Magic Inc. issued, the ones that look like Ross Bertrams cups, for years. But ... I finally settled on the cups ma...

In most cases the dominant hand does the dealing, so a right handed magician holds the deck in his left hand.

Re: Lefthanded
I, too, am a right-brained performer, however, I perform card magic in as a right-handed person would. Since my left hand is dominant, and most sleights are initiated with the left hand, my theory was why retrain my right hand? I figured the learning curve would be shorter. I don't know if it's true...
