Eddy Taytelbaum dies...

My Dutch is way sketchy but I found a posting on FB that Eddy Taytelbaum died on the 21st of July. As a builder, it was an honor to have a chance to see a few of the items he created in person. They were truly works of art!

Recquiescat in pace, Mr. Taytelbaum.

Re: Obituary for Denny Haney

Denny was one of the people I was most looking forward to working with again after my retirement plans kicked in and I went back to building magic later this year. His business advice over the years was worth more than anything I ever got from MBAs, small business advisors or municipal employees. He...

Denny Haney is seriously ill

Damn it... Dennis Haney, national magic treasure, has been diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer. A GoFundMe page has been set up. Please consider contributing if you're able. Our company got lots of support and good information from Denny with no regard to what he might get out of it. I hope this effort is...

Re: New Potter Auction Catalogue ... WOWzer!

David Baldwin was truly a class gentleman. I was fortunate enough to see most of the collection in situ many years ago. My (now) wife and I stopped in to chat with him and view not only this collection, but his extensive collection of The Shadow material as well. He gave us the opportunity to make s...

Re: Abb Dickson - RIP

I only had the fortune to meet with Abb once in person but we had a good correspondence by letter (remember those?) and phone in the early Nineties. He not only bought from us but was very generous with advice and suggestions on our product line. During our work with Sid Radner on the USD miniatures...

Re: Carl Williams - RIP

Just ran across this and very saddened to hear the news. Mr. Williams was a consummate craftsman and true gentleman that I was fortunate enough to work with on a couple of projects. It has been many years since then but I still fondly recall learning much from the man. Recquiescat in Pace, Mr. Willi...

Re: Need Help To Identify Guillotine

It is clearly a Lester Lake "style" chopper. Thayer published very detailed plans for this piece (and many others) and this looks like it was made from those plans. The shape of the handles, feet, blade and cutouts are almost spot on to those shown. Might make finding the builder a bit mor...

Re: David Baldwin R.I.P.

Very sorry to hear this. Mr. Baldwin was always very cordial, open and interesting. He had a friendliness that belied his very lofty position in so many different arenas. His collection of not only magic but items relating to The Shadow and "Maxwell Grant"(Walter Gibson) was beyond impress...

Web site is down, phone disconnected and doors closed. Remaining stock has been purchased by D.Robbins and is being sol...

Damn, damn, damn... late to the game but I just want to add what a wonderful guy J.P. was. We talked a lot through the years and did a few projects for each other. Always, always great to talk to whether magic related or just shooting the breeze. Turned out we had mutual connections in the little bu...

And that American Masters piece ended up being very positive and loving toward magic in general. I strongly recommend it if you didn't see it tonight. "Modern Magic" as Rosebud... classic!

To Gary Kosnitzky- Richard Kaufman doesn't need my defense... we've only met a couple of times and in the first instance didn't get along too well. BUT- over the years he has invested time, money, effort and probably blood, sweat and tears. That's what business owners do. I know. Without his efforts...

Re: Disecto gone wrong?

No,, they're not sharp- many have a "false edge" ground along the side to look like a cutting edge. BUT... a metal blade of any significant size either dropping from a height or being pushed violently down is likely to cause a great deal of damage.

Re: Burton Sperber Memorial Services

Mr. Sperber was always a joy to work with and his knowledge of magic history ran both broad and deep. Many were the times we would work on a specialized project for him with little regard to costing because it was just such a joy to learn from him. Magic suffers a great loss with his passing. My condolences to Sid's sons... he was a crusty character who was always open to us when we approached him on a deal or for some advice. He is owed a debt for rescuing much that would have been lost forever without his efforts.
