Yes John
Also Giovani Livera published his version called "Pennies".
Ray Mertz I believe used to do that effect. There is a video of him performing it.

Another option (better IMO) is to ask for "odd or even", eliminate accordingly and proceed from there. Basically the same without the "touching".

A more "modern" version is to use the method to have 4 "random" cards come out... which match your prediction. You could even have a photograph for the prediction.
It's mentioned by Annemann in the Jinx

Does anyone know the origin of the following glimpse: You are holding a single face-down card in Biddle Grip. You squeeze the card so it bends up allowing you to see the index at the inner end as you place it face down in the spectator's palm-up hand. I may have been shown this by Bill Goldman many...

Just a thought.
That would never happen. In fact, I'd wager that if Ricky's ghost could make sure David couldn't get a single piece through the auction he would do it.
Why that attitude?

I felt the award Dani DaOrtiz received was kind of unfair or even unaproppiate. It's like when an incredible movie receives an Oscar for "best editing" or "best soundtrack". A more general recognition for his contributions to magic could have been better. It's all good though. On...
