Seeking Inspiration by Looking at Other Disciplines: A Guru's Lesson
This caught my eye, and, as I pondered it, Roberto Giobbi's exhortation toward a multi-disciplinarian approach to art came to mind. So, in the spirit of the new year, some food for thought: From one of musician Ravi Shankar's students on turning 40. "My own guru; a few of the ragas that he taug...

Re: Cognitive Color Change
Yes, I had checked it out before I performed the effect. Later, when trying to explain the concept, I had to resort to the video to make my point, since I was unsuccessful in making myself understood otherwise. My friend was unable to spot any differences when watching the clip.
Wild stuff.

I found Tom Stone's report (03/2011) thrilling. I read the article last night, and performed the effect this afternoon, in a cafe. I even recorded the performance, told them afterward that the cards were blue all the time, and then showed them the clip. They still didn't seem to get it. Pretty amazi...

Yep, works like a charm, today. Thanks.
And thanks for posting the clips. I enjoyed the video updates, and catching a bit of the action at the Magi-Fest, which I could not attend.

I'm enjoying the electronic version immensely--so much fun with all the media extras. However, although I have viewed the XCM clip, the Lodestone clip and listened to Storyville, none of the clips on the Genii Speaks page are working for me...

Just wanted the powers that be to know how much I'm appreciating the column on card flourishes. It's fascinating to watch as this branch of card magic develops. It's occurred to me that being facile with a couple of these fancy moves could be useful for a television spot, so I'm glad to have lessons...

You could explore the dollar store for ideas. They often sell colored glo-bracelets in a multi-pak. You can find them for as many as 5/dollar.
I kind of loathe giving away sweets at a birthday party, although on occasion I have given out Dum-Dums (lollipops), since it was convenient.

Re: Outrage over Chinese magician's synchronized fish
Guys, I think it's worth mentioning that it really doesn't matter whatever else they do or do not do in China. Some concerned citizens are speaking up on behalf of animals which cannot speak on their own behalf. I don't think there's much point in criticizing activists for that. (Except, of course, ...

This is great news. I have a US subscription, but am home so infrequently, that I only have a chance to scoop up my issues a couple times per year... Thanks, everyone, for your input. Lot of good suggestions, it seems. Low budget, up thru the Creative Magic products, about which I had seen advertised and have only heard good things. Hi,
I'm primarily a platform and close-up performer, but am interested in learning how to make an assistant appear onstage.
Are there any low-budget introductions to this that anyone can recommend?
Many thanks,
Damian

Michal,
Regarding point 2 above, you can work for tips on the street in Czech, you just have to get permission, first.
But that's no different than anywhere else (you have to get permission in the States too, for instance).

Hi All, I'm interested in books (or other teaching resources) that instruct in the building of illusions. Newspaper hats, anyone?
Hi All,
I just saw a clip of Bob Read performing his newspaper hats routine. Loved it. Brand new for me, I've never seen anything like that before. Does anyone know if the routine is published, or where one might learn about a transforming newspaper hat?
Thanks,
Damian

Hi, I'm investigating performing "Airborne," for a video piece that will contain some quick, visual magic. I've never used this prop, but the line in the script references a "genie in a bottle," and I thought the image of the floating glass might play well. Can anyone advise as t...

Anyone have any ideas for Mother's Day themed magic?
Thus far, my brainstorm has yielded anything with a napkin rose, and the Happy Birthday card trick, with Happy Mother's Day as the surprise inscription.
