Contracting out

Hi, I have a question about contracting out as a magician to another company. At the end of last year I was hired by a dance company to incorporate magic into one of their performances. I also performed a few pieces in the show. After previewing the show the dance company has decided to use this sho...

Re: lean illusion

Buster keaton used this effect in The College. He may have used it other times as well, but that's the movie I remember it from. Chaplin did a lean effect but he went backwards while on rollerskates in the movie The Rink. I don't know how he did it, but it looks great.

Re: Let Me Know if Your October Issue of Genii Has Arrived!

Still nothing in Western NY. There really isn't a typical. Some months it arrives a couple of days after the 15th, and sometimes it arrives the next month. (I'm sure it has something to do with living so darn close to Canada)

Elephant Room

I read a good review about this show. I'm thinking of taking a trip to the city to see it. Has anyone seen it or heard about it?

Re: Genii: The Conjurors' CONVENTION in 2012

Actually Im just looking for a reason to get out of upstate NY and its premature cold weather. Seriously though, theres a reason Charleston was just named top city in the USA for travelers. Out of all the east coast cities I have visited, been stationed at, trained in etc, Charleston is on the top o...

Re: Genii: The Conjurors' CONVENTION in 2012

For an east coast location I would say somewhere like Charleston SC. The airport is large enough to be easily accessible and affordable from other cities around the country. The city itself is more affordable than northern east coast cities and the weather is much warmer. I would think a time during...

Mark Wilson

While perusing through past issues of Genii I came across the column Mark Wilson wrote about his experiences producing his TV shows. Seeing that the Magic Circus 40th Anniversary celebration at the magic Castle is just around the corner, I thought others might enjoy reading, or rereading, these too....

My advice concerning arguing/debating/disagreeing/ or simply reasoning with Justin is - dont. A little while back the Caf was inundated with this same type of back and forth with Justin concerning another review. (Its all still there if you have the time and desire to dig through it). In addition to...

Congratulations! I know there are a lot of books and DVDs about working restaurants, but my favorite is by far Steve Delas Work and Play DVD set. His advice on approaching tables and creating a routine is second to none. With any residency gig it is important that the restaurant manager, or whoever ...

I saw the show during the Luminato Festival, and it was great. The overall feeling of the production is that of a stage play, rather than a magic show. Im glad I didnt miss it.

Without seeing the dancers you will be working with it is impossible for me to give specific advice. However, here are a few tips that you can answer that will get you started. - Dance Style: Watch the dancers perform other dances besides the one you are helping them with. Get to know their style an...

I do. What exactly do you want to know? Is it a dance show with magic or a magic show with dance?
