Re: Basic Moves
...with a good double lift, control (includes force) and palm, you can do miracles. I totally agree! I usually teach a bit more because I have more time to fill with a series of classes. I don't teach card palming because I've never learned and therefore never used it in my 36 years of performing. ...

Re: Payment for convention workshop almost a year overdue
Good news!! The convention organizer is making good on the debt, and everybody's happy... YAY!! I knew he was a good guy, and would settle it. It just took longer than I expected.
Thanks!!

Re: Site feedback
You are certainly on the right track with establishing a "look & feel" for your act. However, I think the balance between artistic and readable needs to be adjusted. The fancy words are a nice touch, however "Praestigium" is too obscure. I'd choose a more common word. Avoid h...

That is a final resort option I am willing to use, but I'd like to exhaust all other options first.

Re: Basic Moves
When I'm teaching card magic to kids, I focus on these key techniques: * controlling a card to the top of the deck * double lift * top change * forcing a card * false cut For coin magic: * finger palm * coin switch * coin roll (for showing off) That's plenty for a 9 year old to learn, and should ser...

Tom Frank has a really nice set of C&B, might be worth looking into. He performs at the Castle sometimes, I'm sure they can help you contact him.

Payment for convention workshop almost a year overdue
Hello to all magicians of quality and others! I've been very very patient and remained pleasant for quite some time, but I'm now losing my patience. I did a 4 hour workshop at a convention in January of 2010. I have yet to be paid. I have contacted the organizer many times, by email and phone. Still...

Re: MAGIC MASTERS shops / Dennis Sowers
I'd love to chat with Dennis Sowers again. He trained me when I worked at Magic Masters in the mid 80's when it was located in the Atlanta Hilton Hotel lobby, under the escalator.
Dennis is the best ever when it comes to using Rocky Raccoon!

Re: Ambitious card where you bend the card
I love that ending to the ambitious card routine. It's so visual and magical that the audience, even kids, reacts strongly. Sometimes I'll have a child pretend they're pulling a string above the card and time the release so it looks like they are making it happen. The look on their face is priceless!

Re: Gluing Cards Together-A Miracle Product
Bob, thank you VERY much for this tip, your timing is perfect! I'm working on a jumbo card trick in which I need to stick cards together, and nothing I tried was working well.

Re: Performing for Mentally Challenged Adults
I LOVE performing for groups of developmentally disabled people. One of my best shows was for a group in Staten Island (http://www.mistergreggy.com/PressKit/SI ... 1-2003.pdf) when I tou...

Re: What are some big hitting effects for Kid shows?
David Kaye is correct, it's all about the journey. I also agree that it gets a better reaction if the magic moment is isolated from the gags. As for sucker tricks, I avoid them at all costs. In my book "Kids Think It's Funny" I have a chapter on my version of the Monkey Bar trick. It's set...

Re: Magic workshop for elementary students
Many time when I teach magic classes there is a materials fee added on. This covers the cost of materials, of course. It can also pay for books or pamphlets given out to your students. I have an instant author kit called "Learn Magic" that is perfect for this type of gig. The link is in my...

Re: Wanted: Magic so cool a dog can do it!
I use a Rocky raccoon spring animal puppet in my shows, and one of his routines is a card trick. Card chosen, returned to deck. Deck dropped in paper bag, shaken (not stirred). Rocky lowers a rope in the bag, wiggles it around a bit, then pulls up the chosen card with the rope tied around it (like a...

Re: How to control children
I've found that if you pay attention to the audience, they will pay attention to you. Instead of working hard to get them to notice you and what you're doing, notice what they are doing. It helps a lot in keeping the kids from getting out-of-hand.
