Re: Finding a mentor

While I am glad there are those who can develop to the fullest all on their own, I believe a mentor can be very helpful. The analogy is not exact, but imagine if you were going to try to be a medical professional by just reading about surgery, anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, etc. You might eventu...

Re: Finding a mentor

Aren't we all compilations of our various mentors? Magical and non-magical? I think it's safe to say that anyone who is reading this--even someone far remote into the future--will have a little bit of Vernon in them. Unless another asteroid wipes out all the magicians, I don't think we can ever exi...

A method occurred to me as I was watching Danny's cool effect. Perhaps he had a special vertical, clear piece of plastic or glass affixed to the front of his performing area. The two lights shined onto the glass to prevent reflections. It appeared that he was sticking the blocks to the glass. He wa...

I loved the egg bag routine. You could see the Miller bones, a lot of Thompson, and even a dash of Hobson. I even thought their choice of color for the egg bag was so smart (and neatly solved the Miller/Thompson v. Hobson take on egg bag color). The best part about the routine is that I couldn't pic...

A related question: some audiences just applaud or laugh to be polite. Is there any easy way to tell the difference from on stage? Or does the ability to discern this just come from experience?
