Last I looked, both The Atlanta Harvest of Magic and TRICS are still scheduled. Normally I'd be registered for both and counting down the days. As it stands, I am registered for neither and have no illusions of attending. Sigh.

Re: How will magic change after COVID?

I will repeat, once there is a vaccine and the majority of people are inoculated, nothing will change. History would tend to bear out Richard's assertion. I find the certainty of Richard's assertion to be somewhat cavalier, and the claim that history supports it, dubious. Regarding history, there h...

Re: How will magic change after COVID?

History would tend to bear out Richard's assertion. Examples like a decline in the number of bills or pieces of change in people's pockets would certainly necessitate changes in how "impromptu" magic is presented, but would it change magic overall? Nah. Everything's fleeting, right? Rememb...

magic - is, to large extent, a performance art. Comparing with other things from the realm of performance art (theater, circus, music), the gender ratio in magic is an anomaly. If you compare magic to performing arts to which it is more similar -- stand-up comedy, juggling -- the gender ratio for m...

I happened to catch an episode of Season 2 of this show where Willman "performs" Max Maven's B'Wave. To a woman on the street, he holds up some squared cards in his hand, claiming they are the four queens. He then asks her to name any queen. She does so, and lo and behold, he spreads the ...

Bicycle 808s will do me just fine. Red, preferably. And, after careful consideration, Card Craft by J.K. Hartman. Doc Daley's last trick. No set up or gimmicks required. Spectators equate aces with magic. It's quick. No time for them to get bored and if you need to go back to work, leave them with a card or just wanting more. In their hands - magnifies the effect. Great lead in to other card tricks. "Pack...

Lately, under similar circumstances, I've been performing Paul Hallas's Under Pressure, from his Card Magic for the Enthusiast book. It's a great quickie. Paul Diamond demoed what appears to be similar, if not the same, back in the mid-80s. I've used it ever since. To the best of my recollection he called it a slippery double, but don't quote me. I don't recall him sharing any provenance.
