Re: Collecting Playing Cards
Hear hear! The lure of shiny new things is hard to resist, and now I have a huge pile of card decks that cost too much to actually use for magic or card games, because I'm very hard on cards. But since I'm not a big-C Collector, the pile just gets in the way. *sigh*

I've recently "discovered" Stud poker cards at Walgreens. For about the same price, I find them significantly better quality than average Bikes. Of course, YMMV.

Rob Block asked: "Is there any truth to the various quality levels of US playing card bicycle decks depending upon where they are sold?" There's plenty of truth (and some hype, naturally) w/r/to USPC quality of late. I gave up on the CostCo 12-packs long ago, since as you say they are cons...

I will also recreate the very good point that if the material was sold at the advertised price without the Revelations original DVDs most of us own, everyone would have been happy. Agreed. To me, the KS in these decks looks eerily like Max Maven. Since all the court cards seem to have distinct facial features, I expect they're all similar to someone, but I don't recognize anyone else in particular. (And I'm willing to admit lack of a widow's peak makes the Max image a bit iffy...) DrD

The book is a terrific read, but I do wish there was a way to hear the original readings. Google turned up reference to a torrent of mp3's but alas, no se...

I've been buying the entire series from CARC, and urge everyone to do the same, if only to help out the organization. But frankly, these latest (No. 2 Blue) are the ugliest of the lot, IMO. By contrast, the previous red/gold acorn backs are some of the handsomest cards I've ever seen.
