Re: A new book on Annemann - The Miracle Factory

There would have been nothing complicated about typing in all the new material and then inserting it into the original text where it should have been properly placed according to Martin's wishes.

Re: A new book on Annemann - The Miracle Factory

With Kickstarter, if a project does not get funded, you get your money back. With Indiegogo, you don't get squat back. With Kickstarter, if the project DOES get funded, there's still a chance you will get neither the product nor your money back. I have backed several Kickstarter projects from The My...

Re: A new book on Annemann - The Miracle Factory

Thank you. The experience that taught me the lesson about not advertising too early was David Roth's book in 1985. People paid, but it was at least a year late. Maybe more. I got slightly tripped up with both Tenyoism and DeLand, but they were printed in China and presented problems I had not previo...

Re: John Cornelius Has Died

Well, I am yet again the in position of requesting someone to write an obituary for Genii--this time of John Cornelius. Even though I knew him since the 1970s, we only talked about magic. I don't even know what he did for a living! So, if anyone knows him well enough to do this and can knock out 500...

Re: A new book on Annemann - The Miracle Factory

Aside from the issues with the publishing schedule and Michael Weber's missing commentary, the larger issue (for me) is that all the material which Martin Gardner collected since the initial publication of the book was dumped in the back by scanning his index cards at a size that I found difficult i...

If anyone needed to be reminded that Criss Angel’s stardom exists mostly in his inflated head, we can see it plainly now with Copperfield doing 15 well attended shows a week and Angel, who has been fruitlessly chasing him for 15 years, relegated to ... 5?

Re: 1st TV magic

The history of what was on the earliest TV broadcasts, which were private not public, or localized in a small area, is murky. At this point I would imagine it would be impossible to come up with a definitive and provable answer about the first magician to appear on TV.

Asking tourists to stand for an entire show is just plain dumb.

Re: THR Story Re: Roy's Accident

White tigers and lions are not meant to be saved from extinction. They are a genetic mutation that should be left on its own to die out. People in the world of animal conservation were always unhappy about what Siegfried and Roy were doing with the white cats, which disturbed the natural order.

Re: THR Story Re: Roy's Accident

If you read all of the witness statements that Mullins linked to, you see one where it was stated that tapping the tiger on the nose was standard practice, and something the tigers were trained to respond to.

We will NEVER know the exact reason Mantecore flipped out.

Re: THR Story Re: Roy's Accident

No hairspray, no beehive hairdo, no tall lady, no laser. Just an angry cat and Roy misjudged that. This might not happen today because most performers are wearing earpieces with audio fed in. If the stagehand saw that the cat was not behaving normally, the information could have been relayed to Roy ...

This latest news on Roy's accident seems to have stirred (at least among magicians) a number of varying responses. If anything, it seems only to indicate that the original "official" explanation(s) as to the cause of the accident were (and still are) somewhat unpalatable, if not completel...

I've been doing "Quick 3 Way" with the alignment move since I was 14. Great trick. The alignment move works fine within it. There's not much that's "natural" about it, but it doesn't matter.
