Re: Anyone know what this flip card is?

These cards are a retreat from the near-perfection of dental-dam flapped gimmicks. They are closer to what was being done 100 years ago, with fat black elastic embedded in the cards.

I agree with Tom.

Re: Hofsinzer leaping card

I'm sure someone has, but don't recall any specific names. Here is the problem with that: the cards will fall on the floor and can't be seen unless you are in a sitting room situation where you are standing and the seated audience is a distance back from you. Vernon used the principle in a trick whe...

I sat and talked with Vernon at length about what he meant by being "natural." I should turn that into a Genii article.

Re: Be Natural. What did Vernon mean?

I learned much at the Stella Adler Conservatory that is applicable to magic, whether stage or close-up.

But here's a smell test.
Is something unnatural? You know it when you see it.

Re: 2018 I.B.M. Convention Updates

For decades it has always been a question among convention organizers in the US (and probably in Europe, too) whether to hold a convention that comes immediately before or after FISM.

The general consensus is, among convention organizers in the US (at least), that it doesn't make any difference.

Re: 2018 I.B.M. Convention Updates

It's becoming apparent (at least to me) that for many smaller conventions--a category which now includes the IBM and SAM--that it doesn't matter what talent is booked. They have become regional conventions that attract mostly a local group from nearby states.

Certainly the original Tarbell System is now in public domain. The copyright was not renewed.
Whether The Tarbell Course in Magic is in public domain, I don't know.
But you could certainly colorize and sell any illustration from the original System.

Re: FISM 2021 goes to Canada!

The dates for FISM in Quebec are July 26 to 31, 2021. (The email sent out today to those who registered misidentifies the dates as May 3-6, 2019). It's nothing like the Genii convention. FISM is centered around its contests, which take up a good chunk of the day. It's also not like any other convent...
