Re: Save $50 on Martin Gardner's Impromptu
Mark, including inflation and time value of money you probably paid $400 by now. I wonder how many who have pre-paid have already died. Perhaps a new strategy in the making ...

Re: Hank Lee
Do I understand this correctly that Hank Lee, besides having to return what he stole, only has to pay a $6000 fine and sits in jail for a couple of months? If that is the case then I am not surprised that so many try this kind of theft. The downside isn't that big for potentially walking away with m...

Re: L&L Publishing eBooks
I find marking a product with a customers name, email or other identifier is completely counter productive. When that original customer sells his products on the second hand market somebody else will now have a product with his name. That person is now free to upload it to pirate sites and will not ...
Re: Hank Lee
He's selling as much stock as possible to raise money to pay off RG--that's my guess. You are kidding, right?! So let me get this straight. Hank Lee, having already damaged magic as a whole, is now further damaging all other magic retailers by dumping his inventory at wholesale prices on the market...
Re: Hank Lee
I am not sure what Mr. Riser's point is. I think everybody knows that other criminals have stolen much more than half a million. Does that make Hank Lee's theft any better? I don't think so. At least for the magic industry I would say Hank Lee holds the not particularly flattering record of the 'big...
Re: Hank Lee
I personally think ordering from Hank Lee would be unfair to all decent magic dealers. Why should he get the business over all the other dealers? I can't come up with any halfway good reason to justify that, unless you are related to Hank or are such a close friend that his criminal actions have lit...
Re: Hank Lee
I thought this was the beginning of a Hank Lee support fund to help him pay back half a million dollar. At least that would show true friendship for those who still like him.
Re: Hank Lee
... and if guilty he will pay... By his own admission he IS guilty of $560k credit card fraud and obstruction of justice (lying to federal investigators). He is a criminal and deserves to be treated as such. To me the 'Mr. nice guy' criminal, as Hank Lee is portrayed by some, is even more dangerous...
Re: Hank Lee
Or Paypal which shields your credit card information. For me that is the real lesson in the Hank Lee story. I will from now on try to use Paypal for all my online purchases. It makes a lot of sense if you look at it through this story. Once RG switched to Amex the theft began. I guess an Amex card a...
Re: Hank Lee
Wow, so stealing is now fine to keep ones business running. Like it really matters why he stole. Mr. Kaufman how is your business going? Can I really trust you with my credit card for the Genii renewal? If you have a shortfall perhaps you are tempted to double charge it, too? I am almost as shocked ...
Re: Hank Lee
Terry, I could agree with you if Hank Lee would have made two or three fraudulent credit card transactions of a few hundred dollars and if he would have admitted to them when asked by R.G. or at the latest when the investigators showed up on his doorstep. However, Hank Lee has made hundreds of fraud...
Re: Hank Lee
HL didn't screw up 'once'. He screwed up hundreds of times over the course of years. Can people change and get their act together? Yes, but it happens very seldom after such a behavior has been established over that amount of time and magnitude. In business when you loose your integrity it is gone. ...
Re: Hank Lee
What is surprising is that Paypal and credit card companies have not revoked his privilege to charge credit cards after $560,000 in fraudulent credit card transactions. How he can continue his business is quite surprising. Somebody who steals half a million (and potentially more if the accounts of o...

Mr. Kaufman if the Real Secret promises are as 'watertight' as all the other 'limited edition' promises we have seen in magic I will soon be buying these 'not so real' secrets at a discount. At $12/month removing the cost for s&h what can you really get than maybe a gaffed card or some plastic t...

Robert, that is an excellent tip. If an effect is really good I am sure it will become available in other forms as well. Why would the creator limit his profit? Come on guys, it's not like MagicPedia is this unique resource where all that unique contents has been created. Most of what I see there is copied from other places (books, websites) and my guess would be that permission has not been sought for every piece used.

Re: February 2011 Issue of Genii Goes Live on TUESDAY
For many it is not purely about price or compatibility. I subscribe to magazines primarily for the type of content I am looking for regardless of the price. This is not to say that Genii is not a good magazine but the type of content is not necessarily exactly what every magician really wants to read.

Re: New Dai Vernon DVD ReleasedI
What I don't understand is why the estate immediately pulled out the 'seize and desist' attitude. Obviously such a video does not harm Vernon's legacy but furthers it. What do you expect to see? Vernon naked? It is a shame that such attitudes will cause many unique historical records to be lost and ...

Re: New Dai Vernon DVD ReleasedI
What Kaufman and many others here seem to not understand is that there is a huge difference between private letters sent from the author to a specific recipient and a video that was shot with full consent obviously meant to be shared with others - why else would it be video taped? Vernon agreed to t...

Sure Bob you can make a big legal battle out of it. But if Vernon agreed to it, gave his word, and there are witnesses that attest to it then I see nothing wrong with it even 25 years later. In the US everything is being made into a lawsuit because there are too many damn lawyers who have nothing be...

It depends on what was agreed. My point is that that agreement could have been verbally. It is not unreasonable to assume Vernon agreed to the taping as well as to its later use in a product for sale.

Re: New Dai Vernon DVD ReleasedI
Where I come from a verbal agreement is just as binding as a written contract. If Vernon agreed verbally to the shooting and later use then they have any right to do that. Perhaps there are witnesses who would attest to the verbal agreement.

I typically like Setteducati's creations but this is lame. It is painting by colors but instead of painting you place colored pieces. The last time I checked 'a family' and 'my family' are two different things. As an editor Mr. Kaufman should have acquired a bit more sophisticated command of his mother tongue. But then again I see nothing wrong with a simple low cost diet.
