Hawaii's Craig Matsuoka published a monograph called "The Gaff Factory" in 2007. He used "dry mounting tissue (DMT)" to create his gaffed cards. You could look into that.

Mark Phillips just mentioned "adding different sequences".
Peter Woerde published a nice booklet in 2009 named PATTERNS FOR THE THREE SHELL GAME. If you want to go deep on practice, get that book.

Whoever buys "Dr. Sawa’s Magic Airmail" should check out Max Maven's routine which was published I think in The Linking Ring. I used that routine for years, originally for a USPS Christmas party.
