If you have THE ROYAL TREATMENT, go back and work up "Triple Decker Kings" again. Signed-card or not, it's an impressive routine for laymen....and it's fun to do. Robert put a lot of work into his set-list and this was a fortuitous amalgamation of three separate tricks. I know Greg Eanes h...

Robert McDaniel has passed on

Robert ("Bob") McDaniel, from the Austin, TX area, passed on early today following a brief illness. You may remember that he'd written two comb-bound books of mostly card magic: THE ROYAL TREATMENT [published by Chuck Martinez in 1981] and CARD VENTURES [published by Mickey Hades Internati...

The one surprise for me was that Stephen Mangan (Doyle) really took over as "the" actor, though I kept thinking "Was Elliott Gould born a lot earlier than 1938?" And the unfortunate surprise was that Michael Weston (Houdini) wasn't nearly as scene-stealing here as in "House&...

What I remember of Mr. Doty was his sense of humor and the nameplate/badge he wore at the '84 Atlanta Harvest of Magic. He'd lost a lot of weight...a lot...and thus wore a badge that said, "Yes, I'm Doty". Wow, the irony of Tom and then Doty passing on within a few weeks of each other... :-(
