Re: Please retire the term, "cardman."

So a joke and a response to the joke have been deleted from this thread.

This is a perfect example of why predominantly old white men post to this board.

Of course this comment will be deleted soon as well. Sigh.

I think I'll go post some honest book reviews and prepare to be banned.

the MTV VMAs have eliminated gender references completely They also have eliminated music videos from their programming. Ha! Yep, they began the process of elimination in 1992. Also occurring in 1992? The publication of Chris Kenner's Totally Out of Control and the now classic "The Five Faces ...

Re: Please retire the term, "cardman."

If I had to guess, I'd bet that the biggest thing that keeps girls/women from participating is that when they do show up at magic functions, they get treated as girls/women (for example, hit on) rather than magicians. Talk to Sara Crasson about this sometime. Also Lauren Cohen: http://explauren-lif...

Re: Please retire the term, "cardman."

Magician works. Do we say actor or do we divide the notion into actor, actress and await a deluge of genderjargon? The point is: we don't refer to actors as acting men . Because... By definition the word 'actor' is gender neutral and refers to a person who acts, male or female. By definition the wo...

Well, the votes have been counted and it's official! The term that will replace 'cardman' in the lexicon is.... Cardwoman!! Usage notes: 1) Plural: Cardwomen. 2) Cardwoman and it's variants are gender neutral and imply nothing beyond an interest or facility in card table artifice. Examples: "La...

It's amazing how hard some will work not to understand something fairly plain. I believe Peter's point, which he has stated repeatedly, can be succinctly put this way: When writing about a specific person, it's appropriate to use whatever term best describes them . Charlie Miller therefore could ap...
