Some collectible books for sale
It's time to lighten my possessions, and pass on some of my books to new homes. Thanks for looking at the list. Within the continental US, I'll ship via media mail @ $6 per standard-size book, and I'll combine shipping charges for multiple books. Outside the US, shipping will vary according to desti...

Re: FSH--Book copyright 1929
This book isn't rare. If you search for it here (always a good place for reality checks): http://www.addall.com/Used/, you'll find several copies for $20-$30. The highest price quoted there is $60, but that seems like wishful thinking on the part of a seller.

Re: Troublewit research en Français
It turns out that the Smith Collection at the John Hay Library at Brown University has both "Papier multiforme" and "Comment cela se fait." (Smith-John-Brown: sounds as if the library should be on Main Street, Pleasantville, USA). Just look up "Felicien Trewey" in "...

There are two copies of Trewey's "Papier multiforme" in the Library of Congress. Go to the LoC catalog page (http://catalog.loc.gov/) and do a Quick Search on Author keyword, Felicien Trewey. You should be able to g...

Re: Update to the Auction of the Century - The Christopher Collection
Wow! Amazing. Thanks. Do we know yet what fetched the highest price? $32,500 for the Kellar letter was the highest price I saw. The second highest I saw was $30,000 for Lot 220 (Robert-Houdin, Vol. 1 & 2 Confidences d'un Prestidigitateur). But there may have been some higher ones that I didn't ...

Lot 157 went for $32,500! Just a bit over my budget.

You can see the realized prices as they happen by clicking on the View Live Sale link on the left sidebar of the auction page. Unfortunately, once the bidding for an item is over, the realized price disappears.

There are 16 pages in Volume 6 of Dhotel's La Prestidigitation Sans Bagages devoted to Le Papier Multiforme, with detailed instructions, diagrams, and patter. Here is a loose translation of the paragraphs quoted by Joe Pecore. "Troublewit "Here is an entertainment from bygone years done wi...

The Library of Congress lists 2 copies of the David McKay edition with a publication date of 1904. But the colors of the bindings aren't given. http://catalog.loc.gov/cgi-bin/Pwebreco...

Re: Aficionado of a Private Collection
A dust jacket adds to the character of the book. Some dust jackets are beautiful (for example, the ones by Katlyn Breene for Todd Karr's Miracle Factory books), some are a bit weird (Corinda's Thirteen Steps, Cassidy's The Art of Mentalism), some reflect the era in which they were produced (the orig...

Re: Where to go in Paris?
There's also the magic museum near St. Paul -- can't remember the name. It's got a small shop with, at least when I've been there, a hostile employee, but if you're into seeing vintage posters and old props, you can check it out. The museum is Georges Proust's Academie de Magie, 11 rue saint Paul, ...

Re: Old puzzle for the statisticians
The mathematical reasoning for the "switch" strategy is correct, and computer trials are great, but I never really "believed" the solution at a gut level until I coerced a friend into sitting down with me and playing the game several times with three cups and a rolled-up dollar b...
