Re: IN & OF ITSELF Streaming Now
Saw the show live in NY and was stunned. Not sure if watching a movie/film of the same show will ruin that memory for me. (I wanted to attend the show for like 7 days in a row.) I've read great books in the past that I felt were "ruined" by the movie adaptation. Wondering if this will be a...

Re: Discuss Steve Forte's Book "Gambling Sleight of Hand" HERE
This book has been a harsh and humbling experience so far. There were small details that I knew were a little off. A break showing when it shouldn't or the placing of slugs in my riffling stacking procedure breaking up the smooth flow of the riffle itself. Having Mr. Forte call them out in print fee...
Re: Discuss Steve Forte's Book "Gambling Sleight of Hand" HERE
I have it. I feel grateful that I'm in a financial place that I could afford this book. A couple thoughts about it: 1. At first I skimmed over it looking at random pages and sentences. I was struck by how each thing I read was aimed at an issue I had experienced or was struggling with. A simple exam...

Re: Penn & Teller: Fool Us Renewed for Season Seven
Good news! It just occured to me that each season the "contestants" are going against a much more experienced duo. I wonder what the percentage of foolers there are would look like placed on a graph for the first 6 seasons? For example after Kostya Kimlat's appearance does that make it imp...

Good stuff - gave me some tools to reexamine some effects I have been doing for a couple decades and maybe solve some problems I run into. My goal is not to just fool someone in the moment but to have them still stumped a year later. I can see these strategies helping with accomplishing that goal.

Re: Shoving a Straw Through a Potato
I read that effect in 78/79 and tried it with an actual paper straw a friend had in his kitchen. It worked!!! I was totally amazed. I must have reread that book a hundred times before trying that as I thought it couldn't possible work. I've always wanted to do it again but haven't seen a paper straw...

Wow! I didn't realize how massive this book was going to be. Now if I can just get the visiting family members to go home so I can get some decent reading in. (got a few pages read last night.) Re: Recruting New Staff for Genii's Light from the Lamp
As an exercise I tried writing a negative review about a book I had purchased for a friend. This was about two years ago. Three paragraphs in I had to stop. I simply couldn't find the willingness to say anything negative in a public forum about a product no matter what I personally thought. I enjoy ...

Re: Denny's Magic Shop in Las Vegas Has Changed Hands
Denny is a somewhat bitter guy. If you went into his store in Baltimore (not the current one, but the one before) it was filled with guys smoking. The fact that it's a violation of the law aside, it made the place and anything you purchased in it stink. I stopped going to the store because of that-...

I saw this show last night which got a standing ovation. Very professional and was quite enjoyable. However...there is a problem. (Not just with this show but with all magic shows I watch now.) What a splendid collection of material! Just finished watching the included DVD. Haven't been fooled so many times in a row as long as I can remember. Although it was in Japanese I don't think that detracted in the least. Such a calm performance of the material. He really let each effect stand on it...

Just saw Mahdi perform. I was fooled. I had the same solution as Penn and Teller. (It took several viewings to figure out what was going on method wise.) Thoroughly enjoyable presentation of a simple effect handled with a top level skill set.

Got my replacement last week and watched it over the weekend. I'm happy:)
I love the approach to Cannibal Cards (which was the only effect that had sound issues in the original disc) and hope to do it justice when I perform it for the first time.

I'm not worried about the navigation of these discs. I per-ordered these and got them right when they came out as a result. Re: Helder and Derek are returning to the Magic Castle
I find it interesting that out of all the acts I have seen at the Castle recently that I can remember with complete clarity (at least I think I can) all the routines in Helder's and Derek's show. Not to belittle the other acts I have seen as they were all enjoyable but the clarity with which the mat...
