Yeah, sorry. It turns out, that my computer was unable to access that site (and only that site!) because of a local DNS misconfiguration. Your comments helped me realize that it was just me and that ultimately solved the problem so thanks!

Juan Tamariz and Derren Brown- both these guys made me wonder if they really were magical in the literal sense of the word.

OK Jamy's essays are valuable and educational but they stretch the notion of what traditionally constitues a review. Maybe he needs a new title for his column "valuable education on the subject matter and on conjuring in general"

Re: Mnemonica Review

Richard said: there just aren't many books coming out that deserve to be reviewed. We have piles and piles of DVDs and tricks backed up for our reviews, but we must scratch around for literature. A sad statement of the times. It seems that not long ago we were oversaturated with new books coming out...

The "spontaneous" claim is a bit suspect too as the trick requires a bit of a setup. Am I mistaken in thinking this is similar in methodology to an older trick "Walk away Floating Bill"?

Really Steve? well it iis the west coast after all- but my guess is that they're spiking the punch at the pre-taping party.

If those are genuine reactions, they should maybe coach them to be a little less enthusiastic so they seem more real ;)

Thanks, Matthew- Wow, 17 months- I am behind the times! Holy Mackerel!: Derren Brown

I'm penning this while riding a wave of unbridled enthusiasm for Derren Brown. I just saw the first effect in his "Devil's Picturebook" video (the Three Card Routine") and it would be an understatement to say that I'm impressed. Since I'm relatively new to the forum here, perhaps this...

I liked "Impossibilia" a lot and still do some stuff from it (The two Matrix variations of Bob Kohler are great amongst others!) but overall I enjoyed "Smoke and Mirrors" a bit more, More variety (I too love "trick shot production"- such a simple trick, yet such a stron...

Chris Kenner's version from "Totally out of Control" is very strong- it's a just little harder to do (but not really that difficult) than "Snap Change" (Flicking Fingers) which is also a terrific trick. Bill Kalush's "Rubber Ringer" from "Almanac" also kicks m...

Gavriel, I agree with you on all points. (send my check too) I'm curious as to what the idea of not starting the trick with an effect synopsis was all about. I presume there must have been some logical idea behind it and it wasn't just to annoy readers such as ourselves. If it wasn't for Richard's &...

I don't think real magicians are in danger as a result of the flood of instant magicians. There are no shortcuts to artistry. If only there were! I'm a pianist and I 've worked long and hard to play at a respectable professional level. The other night, I came across a show on PBS: "Learn to Pla...

Years ago at the 1st World Magic Summit in DC, I was sitting in the bar when an attending magician performed the following effect: He removed one card from his wallet,- held it in plain view and asked a spectator to name a card. I'm just curious at what makes Tony G. so upset at people who believe that Erdnase was a gambler.
