I think you read this in a book (or magazine) by Karl Fulves but I don't remember which one. I have seen "Floating Key" used in several places.... I know Mike Powers has a trick using a similar principle, but I don't remember what he called it. If memory serves, the effect by Mike Powers ...

Do you have a link to this article, I would like to read it in it's entirety, but are you sure the piece wasn't meant to be mostly humorous? The only group of people I recall being universally disliked were lawyers/politicians.

You don't need a beam, almost any heavy object you can put a rope around will do. Doorknobs, plumbing underneath a faucet ....If you can't hang from something, you can always do it garrotte-style by spinning around like an alligator till it tightens., that how they do it in prison.
