Re: The Trick with the Strongest Reaction from Laymen

I would say the $100 bill switch consistently gets the best reactions. People have an emotional connection with money and if someone could really do magic, they would turn dollars into hundreds rather than do tricks with cards or some other prop.

Re: Ennobling Magic

All sleights and other secrets should be used with discretion. I have no problem using gimmicks but if every trick employs them, it can become obvious. If you establish credibility with skill using normal cards, then you can accomplish miracles with an occasional double face etc. and they will attri...

Hi Jon,
Are you familiar with 'Mystery Solved'?
Do you think the version with clean box but but dirty hands is inherently better than clean hands but dirty box?

Re: "This beats them all!"— Doc Eason

I have been performing “Mystery Solved” by David Penn in paid shows. He has two versions, one with the box being examinable but not your hands and first version with the box not being examinable but your hands are clean. The effect is the same if performed well. I really don’t think one is stronger ...

Re: Martin Gardner's Impromptu PRINTED

Rather than edit my previous post, I would like to clarify. Bait and switch is how it feels to me but I don't believe Todd Karr set out to deceive. I think he got behind schedule and wasn't honest or realistic about it. I think he did a tremendous disservice to those of us that preordered but I don'...

I am one the people that did some complaining. I didn't comment because I am trying to withhold judgement until I see the book. I am sorry I used the word libel.

I do feel that Todd isn't taking any responsibility when he says. "Michael's busy international schedule prevented us from making it happen."

I believe Michael Weber when he says he gave Todd the annotations years ago.

Re: Michael and I Tried

I reread Todd's post and I think Richard is right, it doesn't amount to libel but I would be pissed if I was Michael Weber. For Todd to imply that Michael is unavailable to complete his end of the agreement is an assault on his character.

Re: Michael and I Tried

I think it is another sign of poor customer service that Todd Karr makes a post on a public forum but does not send emails directly to those of us that have trusted and waited for almost a decade for him to deliver on the promise he made when he took our money. For him to cast the blame w/o apology ...

It is very clean. You can probably figure out a way to make it look like you fold up a card and put it in the box but that isn't explained. Jon suggests just bringing out the box with the card in it already and going into the routine. That works. Treat the box like it is not important yet and go int...

Re: Ringling's Elephants and then?

I saw the tiger trainer for Circus Vargas get mauled during a show. I believe it was 1981. The tigers lived in cages just big enough for them to stand up, take one step and turn around. It was a three-ring circus and the tiger act was in the center ring. A cable came down on a winch and raised the s...

Re: Ringling's Elephants and then?

Diego, I think it’s more complicated than that. In the wild, tigers travel great distances and follow their instincts to hunt and prey. They are amazing athletes. In captivity, they are confined to very small spaces, maybe not by our standards, but compared to living in the wild. They can’t hunt. It...

I would add that there is a big difference in performing for a group of kids 13 years old (think Bar Mitzvah) and a high school grad night. In either case, I try to treat them as adults but I find the younger crowd to be more adversarial. My theory is that by the time you graduate high school, you h...
