Re: where find a magic shop in Shanghai?
If you find one let me know. I spent two weeks there this summer and couldn't find anything except a few counters in a mall or two where they sold some basic magic kits and nothing else. Demonstrators knew nothing beyond the handful of tricks in the kit. My girlfriend, who is Chinese, asked them whe...

New Blaine Special
The new Blaine special was just brilliant--the best by far since his first breakout special. I couldn't help laughing and smiling like a big old goofball the entire time I watched. He's really hammered the combination of cool magician and carnival freak-show performer into something entirely new and...

There are some very impressive giant Asian-style fans produced in the climax of these two performances. Any idea who--if anyone--markets these jumbo fans? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jAOBWELS5Ik (Amazing David, India) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_GONzMvWjQ (Po Cheng Lai, Taiwan) Thanks, Carl

Thanks David. Good to know. Jamy Swiss confirms the same to me in an email -- that it was never officially published. I also met Johnny once while performing at Monday Night Magic. A sweetheart of a guy. He took 10 minutes just to show me how to fold my lapel hank. Funny, it's the little bits of kin...

Thanks guys, but this was a body load.
I'm pretty sure the commercial classics tapes only had a non-body load approach with silks and a top hat.

Johnny Thompson dove production
Does anybody remember a video or DVD in which Johnny Thompson explained how to produce a dove from a body load, but instead of using silks for cover he used clear plastic wrap?
Thanks,
Carl

I need a good version of a lightbulb that lights while held in the hand--preferably the spectator's hand. And I need to be able to control when it turns on and off.

Re: Desperately Seeking Meaning
I think the term "meaning" is misused and misunderstood. What we're really searching for is "context." Cutting a rope and restoring it is inherently meaningful; it causes people consiously or unconsciously to question the laws of nature and life. That's why it's a classic trick t...

I can't speak to the Campbell book, but the Complete Walton (Vol. 1 & 2) is one of the great ones. Even if you don't do a single trick, you'll benefit greatly from the thinking behind the effects.

I think Dustin hit it on the head. That was exactly my reading of the documents and the financials. The one relief is that there really doesn't appear to be any malfeasance in...
