Re: H.G. Wells wrote a magic book

"The Magic Shop", (a very good story BTW) was credited for an episode on, "Alfred Hitchcock Presents". But it had little resemblance to the H.G. Wells story.

It reminded you a little of The Twilight Zone episode with Billy Mumy, "It's a Good Life."

Recently, I saw a movie, "Nostalgia", which themes touch upon the subject of this thread. The movie has an impressive cast, (Bruce Dern, Ellen Burstyn, among others) and is very well written and acted. Not an upbeat, feel-good movie for a Saturday night out, it has a lot of awful truth, th...

Yes, Jay Marshall knew Gresham well. I remember years ago, talking with Bob Lund, (who also knew Gresham well) that Gresham's life story, needed to be told/written. He replied, "The person who could do that, would be Jay Marshall." In his book, Sandy Marshall remembers Gresham who treated ...

Bob,
No, the movie does not deal with the fleas or the scale in the office, as the book does. In his Houdini bio, without mentioning "Nightmare Alley", he does tip the scale/flea mystery, saying it was a stunt, Ed Saint,(Beatrice Houdini's companion) used to do.

It was announced a few months ago for plans of the remake. Be interesting what the screenwriter and director do with the story today. I saw it at Laemmle's Town theater in Encino, Calif....it hasn't gotten to TV yet. I should qualify, the home movies I noted, do show the outside theater marquees with Rose Marie billed with others, including magicians, but it doesn't show them performing or hanging out with Rose Marie.

I just saw, "Wait for your laugh", a bio/doc on Rose Marie. A fun look a her 90(!) years in show business....vaudeville, nightclubs, radio, movies, TV, and more.

Fun to see the home movies of the venues she played, sharing bills with Jose Frakson and Cardini and more.

Worth the watch.

Re: It's not magic, but AGT 2017-- Whoa!

The use of the (back) story for the contestant/performers is nothing more than standard TV production practice. The producers/directors want the public to KNOW the personalities they put on the show, maybe identify with them, so they will CARE about them and want to WATCH them to see WHAT happens to...
