Re: 2016 tricks?

I haven't kept close track of release dates but only two tricks made it into my performing repertoire this year. A variation of the Paul Vigil message on the back with elements of Priceless. The second was Rubicon by Gregory Wilson (whether you're a Wilson fan or not its a great trick)

Re: Norman Beck's Column in Oct MUM: Opinions?

A slightly different view on celebrity and autographs: I just happened to be good friends with a very famous rock star (with a slightly redish name) and have observed her interactions with fans and those requesting autographs. I agree with all the comments about not bothering them with requests when...

Nice young man who won the local Orange County magic club youth contest a couple of times. Re: Banned from Blackpool for my "Safety"

From these discussion I get the impression that British and Aussie magic clubs seem to be much more formal organizations with club rooms and dictatorial officials. Local American magic clubs in my experience, at least, are loosely organized social organizations with a minimum of politics or formaliz...

Re: FISM in UK 2012 ??

Blackpool is now a MUST see convention if only to be on scene for the most "interesting" convention in a long time. Front row seats to see the sinking of the Titanic are worth the cost (of course, hopefully without any loss of human life). Hopefully, the organizers know something we don't ...

Due to the lack of proper lighting and lighting cues the levitation looked like the "woman on a black stick" illusion from my vantage point (stage right). I thought the rotation looked good until the lights came up revealing all. And no the platform and rotating stage are not connected.

One of the areas where the fundamental differences may arise is one's personal definition of "magic". I see "magic" as the seeming accomplishment of the most effect with the least effort. Therefore, displays of physical skill and manual dexterity should be minimized or hidden and...

Richard, I'm sure you're right. I often let my disinterest in manipulators overshadow their considerable accomplishments. The contest would have been much more equitable if there had been more categories (illusion, manipulation, comedy, etc.)

Wasn't there a magic contest in Japan where the results were judged on measurable values? Who could "muscle pass" the highest and do the most passes in a minute, etc. I seem to remember Shoot Ogawa winning some such award.

AH Pete. The famous Japan performance with the neon tube going in upside-down and Kirkham falling off the stage. The neon tube suspension is one of my all time favorite illusions. Blew me away the first time I saw Kirkham perform it (Hollywood circa 1970).
