Something different from Andy today. Some interesting thoughts analyzing the concept of "misdirection". http://www.thejerx.com/blog/2017/12/5/redirecting-misdirection Andy takes issue with Tommy Wonder's discussion of this topic. No he doesn't. What he does is to completely misrepresent T...

Woops, sorry Alfred, I re- read your post carefully and the beer mat trick is slightly different. So my 180 same hand thing doesn't apply.
I can now visualize what you are doing with the deck. I like It!
Sorry for jumping the gun sir.

Re: Improve Your Card Magic Using This 1 Weird Trick!

That is an old beer mat trick. It words with a card box as well, like you said. It looks best if the mat or box flips only 180 degrees and is caught in the same hand that does the initial strike. I will post a video if I get chance. Will a beer mat placed on a table on its narrow edge (a tiny fract...

Nothing fancy about it.
You can instantly know how many letters (cards) are required to spell the glimpsed card.
But trances are fun too.
To each his own.

Re: Grays after spelling trick.

I am quite pleased with the title of this thread which I just made up 10 seconds ago! The reason for it is that it is a follow up to Gray's Spelling Trick. You don't have to alter that trick in any way . Just do it the way you have always done it. I think it might be better to start a separate thre...

I would've loved to have seen him at Bigs.
I too drove from Toronto to see him in Rochester in '97. I was lucky to have been able to spend considerable time with him there on one particular evening at the bar. Very magical experience.

Re: On the Pass

Not a whole lot to be honest. Sometimes I would just practice until passersby got curious and stopped to watch. Other times I would just sit there with a pack of cards in front of me. It wouldnt take long before a couple would stop to see what it was about.

Reg Holden's Note Pads

Hi guys, my old friend Reg Holden used to sell these great little note pads for mentalism. Crowley is always good subject matter.
I often point out the masonic symbolism in the Rider Waite Smith deck without actually saying so. Waite was a member of more than one esoteric fraternity as was Crowley.

Several years ago, when looking for the Esoterico Tarot deck, I located some in an occult shop in Toronto in one of the seedier neighborhoods. Deluded amateurs also borrow money too, you know. And they continue to delude themselves that technical skill equals being a good magician. The main difference is mental attitude. A different approach to things entirely. There is a very interesting sociology book dealing exclusively with magicians which does compare the amateur outlook to to the professional's.
