Re: How is Simon Lovell doing?

I speak with Simon (via telephone) every week. He's an old friend. He's not too involved in magic nowadays; he concentrates on his art and spends time doing cryptic crossword puzzles (as do I) and watching TV. He uses a walking frame to help him get around -- he had a series of bad falls that left h...

Zabrecky - Strange Cures

Rob Zabrecky’s autobiographical memoir Strange Cures is a great read (for mature readers). It’s a 345 page trip through the childhood and mid-20s of a musician who became a magician. Growing up in the southern California suburbs, Zabrecky found himself in a boring environment. Starting grade school ...

LONG POST In 2004 I moved to the U.K. with my lovely, British-born wife, who had lived in the U.S. for about 30 years. A year later, having settled down, I joined The Magic Circle. Some time after that I received a phone call from a gentleman I had seen about 10 years earlier when I visited London. ...

BBC News Website Looks at Magic

The BBC, as part of its reporting on a magic exhibit at the Wellcome Collection, has a story about magic and the changing way psychologists are looking at it. Despite the "Dinamo" (sic) misspelling, it's a good promotion for magic. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-47827346

Maybe, Quentin, you're thinking of Pat Page's trick, where three people cut off portions of a deck, look at the face card, and hold the packets against their chests. Pat names the cards. It's in "Magic Page by Page," The Four Packets, Part 2, pg. 102, and Pat did it frequently . He sure st...
