Re: THR Story Re: Roy's Accident

I knew a cat trainer. Mike Clark from McKinney, TX. He rescued mostly trouble cats from roadside zoos and people who had them as pets and were attacked - then he trained them and put together an act. He told me that a lion - if you get it young, and it's friendly and lets you pet it and play with it...

Re: Silk to flower on Lapel

Thanks, everyone. I found what I was looking for. The friend with a copy of Rice didn't find the effect Spellbinder mentioned, but did find a thread elsewhere that pointed me to the lecture notes of Peter Gloviczki which is what I was remembering. It is a triangle cut silk and shows how the thread g...

Silk to flower on Lapel

Hi, all- This involves a reel attached under the lapel. The thread goes through the lapel and then threaded through the silk (half a silk, cut diagonally?) in a way that when the reel pulls the silk, it jumps to the lapel forming into a flower on the way. Trying to find how to thread the silk. I hav...

Re: Your opinions wanted: what do new magicians need to know about the history of magic?

I think new magicians "need" to know that magic HAS a history. That effects were created by someone, varied by someone else, and that it's easier to consciously build on what's come before than it is to start from scratch. And they need to know where to start looking to discover that histo...

Thanks for the additional thoughts.

For whatever reason, the person cast to fill the role did neither of the bits the first performer was claiming rights to, so it was not an issue.

Bill to Impossible Location

I've seen a version where one tears out almost a quarter of the bill (including the serial number) as the "receipt" given to the spectator. The corner, of course, then matches the found bill. I'm trying to ID the title of that effect or method of tearing the bill. Does the description ring...

David Oliver had a great idea in GENII recently... It was a trick he did for Robin Williams. He was friends with Robin Williams and would perform at his birthday party each year. This is not directly magic related, but am hoping for some insight. A friend performed as part of a long running show for the last 11 years. After a dispute with the producer/director, he quit. In the last of a string of emails that went public, he says "and don't even think about doing X or an...

I have a vague recollection of an effect where a card is selected (forced?) and marked 'in some way'-by being burned. Having the spectator choose that the card be burned is a psychological force. The card is then found in an impossible place in it's altered condition. I'm trying to find the write up...

In my case, the color preference dates back to the early 80's when close up magic was done on a close up pad. A black pad was out--I was doing Roth's portable hole.
