I have the birthday child up for one trick. It just happens to be the most fun and uses all the fall apart wands, etc. Also that trick isn't the first thing I do, its about middle of my kids show. Of course, the thumb count would work... so would counting the cards (perhaps with your feet) under a table. There's a lot of ways of doing coincidice, a few mentioned here. In its simplest form, why not just have the aces all on bottom, deal fair up to the number and then bottom deal. You're already set for the cross cut force for the final ace. But my original point was... if you really can do it perfect...

The Sankey routine 'back in time' also appears on the Best of Sankey DVD's by L&L publishing, although in the explanation he incorrectly credits Sid Lorraine's slop shuffle (to Herb Zarrow I think).

Here's my take on the original question. Tom should have come back to you and shown you his trick and enquired more about how you learnt or came up with your version. Upon seeing Toms trick you would probably be able to tell him that he's reinvented the trick you based yours on. You could prove this...

I haven't seen Mondo Magic, but I do know that the original discussion about Stained Glass was not about a trick where a card prediction changes. When Stained Glass came out the main trick being demoed on Adam Graces web site was some terrible nonsense with a small piece of glass and the word 'WOW'....
