Re: Have you already heard of The World Championships of Performing Arts ?

A compatriot brags about winning gold at The World Championships of Performing Arts that took place in Anaheim this summer.
I had never heard of this competition before.

Re: A question about card magic

Hi Alfred, I use the term findings because I like to compare magic with scientific research. When discoveries are made in science, science evolves. I think that's the same with magic. When Alex Elmsley created the Elmsley count, Dai Vernon created Twisting the aces. When John Bannon created his Disc...

Re: Kind of negative, but here it is.

Hi ejay1118,
As you know, in life things don't always turn out the way we'd like them to, but luckily no one needs to be on the cover of Genii to be happy. :-)
Just enjoy life and magic and stop making yourself miserable thinking you should be famous in order to be happy because that is not true.

In The Skinner Tapes, John Carney generously allowed that Michael Skinner's Notebooks were published. So Michael "Green" Notes volume 1,2,3,4 have been published. When you listen to the tapes Michael reads some effects that he says are described in his Notebooks. For example, for the E.G. ...

Re: What is the purpose of close-up magic?

Darwin Ortiz writes in Strong Magic that "you must create an illusion of impossibility." and that is to my mind the main purpose of magic.
Watch Earl Nelson perform, he is not funny but laypeople find him very magical and he really is.

Interpretation in magic

In music, it is very common to speak of the term interpretation. It seems to me but I may be wrong that in magic we rather use the term presentation. We will say that someone has a very good presentatation for by example the ambitious card. But for me interpretation is larger than presentation, it c...

By the way, you can find LaFollette's method described page 90 of the book Card to Wallet by Jerry Mentzer.
He does not retrieve the "three" cards put in the inner jacket pocket before showing the card in the enveloppe.

Hi Erdnasephile,
John Mendoza's method looks good to me even if I have never tried it in front of real people.
This method makes me think of Paul Gordon's method described in Quidnunc under the title Worker Supreme.
